it was a pretty simple method, all I did was use overlay layers with lowered opacity, and erased and colored on strips of colors.

I am trying to get the projectile's contrail/particle exhaust to appear after a second of firing from the barrel, how would I achieve this effect?

I believe I know how, all I have to do is squish and slant the sweeper mask, like I did with the radar outlines. Then just load it into the correct slots, and it should work.

Your geometry is a mess dude :\

Don't be afraid to model stuff in multiple elements; for weapons especially that's a good way of approaching modeling. Scope, barrel, etc can all get that.

Front grip is way to fucking huge - it'll look absolutely ridiculous in FP.

There's a shitton of other problems in the model that I can't even begin to start pointing out - in all honesty I'd start over and make having a clean mesh an absolute priority.

Mesh needs a good bit of work, but it's good that someone finally decided to go after that concept.

Make the pistol grip thicker, remodel the night scope and some of the other parts. Including a wireframe would help.

I like the visor hud, good transparency imo, I like the hud too, the problem is I think the reticle in the center for the rocket launcher seems to get in the way a tad, hard to see what your aiming at.

Some good stuff and some decent and some wtf stuff, keep practicing :)

also lol @ viagra.

E: agreed wit tehlag on the guass rifle, needs some rethinking/remodeling neat idea though.

I thought it was a Halo 2 Chief, because in my folders it said "h2mc".

I have no idea where or whom I got the Halo 3 Spartan from.

I only have the models textures for the Mark VI, no other armors.

Turns out it was not :V

So now I know the difference in the Halo 2 and 3 Chief Armor.

I think they are the same materials, can't remember.

The RGB values are from halomods.

That really doesn't look good at all. The colors are so washed-out, and you don't even seem to have the correct (if you have them at all properly applied) cubemap on the armor or visor. At least post said speculars and the 3ds material trees so we can point out what's wrong with them.

Anyways, the one I "released" did not include materials. It only included the armors, and textures.

But the one I have currently only has the Mark VI armor and its textures.

Seriously? You're wasting time posting stuff like that, nobody is impressed with what's clearly a ~20 minute job. What, you want people to be going OOOH BOY BOX CHAMFER INSET EXTRUDE PLANAR MAP H3 SCREENSHOT GOOD JOB DUDE!1!!!1 http://sa.tweek.us/emots/images/emot-downsbravo.gif Yeah, I know that it's supposed to look like that, but is that really worth posting? At least make it look pretty if nothing else; give it a specular map or a cool material in 3ds or something...

The "texture" doesn't even look right (notice the lines running vertically down and how they break apart a few times), and there's no material definition on the metal at all.

On a side note, the material you have on the chief looks much, much better than the one you posted earlier. It could just be the lighting, but I do have to give you some credit for that.

Hey this was my first attempt at a skin ever, no ones first try was any good. I dont know how to give textures depth as much as I would.

That was before I had the confidence to unwrap it myself, since chains said he does not want to texture anything unwrapped by DEE. So I unwrapped it, gave it to chains, he still didnt want to texture it. So I had my unwrap which I just posted, and I deleted your max file you sent me because I did not need the unwrap on it.

Your unwrap had the mount all in 1 connected pile on the bottom half, and the cannon unwrapped "organically" on the top half.


Also I only went to CLS to texture it because I could not find anyone else who would want to texture it.

It wasnt all connected. I uv mapped that in headus. It doesnt do that at all. And it was not unwrapped organically. It was even grid snapped.

Advance, please be more clear as to what process the stuff you post about has been through to avoid shit like this in the future.

If someone else did work on it but it wasn't used, at least make a mention of that so we don't have a page of mindless pooflinging. If it's someone's first skin, then let us know it's their first skin so we won't judge too harshly. If there's only certain parts you want us to pay attention to or certain things that you know are messed up, acknowledge them. Your presentation isn't helping other people. Had you said "hey guys, dee unwrapped this but I redid it," this wouldn't have happened. Let us know about all the stuff we should know about something before the topic gets derailed like this.

Also, could you do us all a favor and post more than just a textured clay-render of your work so we can tell what's actually going on? Like, maybe an untextured clay+wireframe (there's a tut on how to do that in the stickes) and the texture itself? It's not the easiest to tell what's going on with a model with all the fancy lighting going on.

The texture doesn't even look like metal to me. The material isn't consistent with that of metal. The colours are very bland and it looks like you didn't put all that much effort into it (although you may feel otherwise). You should have more covenant-esque designs and details put into the texture (be sure to include some curves, not everything is linear). Right now it's a few lines and some colour. Also, it usually looks pretty bad to make lines that thick and completely black. It's not always bad, but in this case it really is. Basically, just work on your metal. Use less dodge and burn tool, and give it some colour. Usually what I do is take a photo of some metal and increase the saturation so that I get some good blues, yellows, purples, reds, oranges, etc. and overlay it so that it's subtle. Also, give it some more general wear-and-tear; scratches, dust, dirt, grime, all that good stuff.

With the exit animation just make it the same as the enter, because how you set it up is weird if you're getting out of the vehicle, and the gun is still going back into the wraith.

I know, its confusing.

When you are entering the vehicle, the gun folds out so you could use them.
When you are exiting the vehicle, the gun folds back into the vehicle to protect them.

Same way as a normal Wraith works.

Looks good but it looks too much like its forerunner. The covi tech would have more useless lights and organic shapes on them. Also the scratches would not reveal a grey metal. The covi tend to stay with there unknown purple alloy.

Then either FF is wrong or America has also butchered the word reticle, because that's the way I've spelled it all my life and nothing has EVER highlighted it. FF isn't even highlighting it now.

Anyway, your stuff needs work. All I really see is pretty generic Halo 3 stuff and the standard low-poly Tommy gun (which I told you how to fix, it still looks absolutely nothing like it should). The transport Wraith harks back to the days of pre-PMI Halo PC modding, when we'd merge the gun on the Hog, Scorpion, or Wraith to a single vert and then call it a transport vehicle, after opening up MS Paint and whacking on liberal doses of incredibly gaudy colours. The reticles aren't tremendously impressive either, all I see is copy-paste work. Sorry, but if you want to get anywhere, you're going to have to branch out and start coming up with some more original ideas. Why not model an entire new Covenant vehicle or Human weapon instead of making yet another AR, like we don't have enough of them already? Why not actually see things through, rather than leave them in a half-arsed state like that Tommy?

I'm not that good at what I do, but at least I try to do things most people wouldn't. I modelled an M16A1, not an M4. I never modelled an AK. I modelled my own sci-fi sniper concept, and I also modelled a King Tiger tank. The only Halo models I've done since I quit HPC modding were a few for the Halo 2: Source team, and one or two hybrid rifles of my own invention. The point I'm trying to make is that no game dev is going to look twice at someone who can model the most bog-standard assault rifle, even if it's dead accurate to Halo 3's. They're going to look for people who can either take its design and use it to reinvent the weapon, or who can design something else entirely.

Looks pretty whack. The PEQ-2 is attached with magic, and the reflex sight is sitting on top. your silencer is just a cylinder. There's more to it than that.

Alright, if you're going to make it up like it's attached with magnets, you might as well make something that looks attached with magnets (though that'd come off pretty damn quick when you hit the dirt or fall into position, it's really stupid to say anything is attached with magnets), at least model something that you could pass off as being attached with magnets, instead of modeling something that EVERYONE knows is attached with a rail.

Model up a small rail (like the br is supposed to have on the carry handle, which you missed). You can look at russian side mounts or something to come up with something plausible.

No, don't take away polies on the sight that make up the curve. I don't know why people always say to do this or ask if they should. People don't ever seem to know anything about silhouette...

I'm still lost at the point which deciding to put a screen on a firearm would be a good idea. Second one looks more like the gun, although both look like they were made for camcorders. Why it's even there when theres a bloody red-dot sight right next to the thing, is beyond me.
