Okay, well that bloody multi display thread as me wanting dual monitors. Not for gaming but general computer usage.

Okay, now I have a Nvidia XFX 7600 GT 256mb AGP card (I think, I'm not at the place where it is so I cant easily check lol). The ports on the back look like this (but it isnt this card)

http://www.ngohq.com/images/articles/7600gsagp/logo.jpg

So it has one VGA port and one DVI port and the S-video thing (I think thats what it is) I am curious if I can put one monitor in the VGA port and one in the DVI and have them dual monitors.

Is the DVI connection something that comes straight from monitor or does it require a connector? Because my two monitors only have the standard VGA connectors.

If all else fails, if I was to buy another crappy gfx card (PCI because my agp slot is being used) could I somehow get that to display my second VGA cabled monitor?

The other problem is one screen is 1280 x 1024 and the other is 1024 x 768, it might look really weird because of resolution different, I dont really care about that but is that a big problem with it working?

You should be able to. If you have the card, you're best bet is to just try it.
You need a DVI monitor to use the DVI output, or one of those DVI-analog-to-VGA cables (they make those). The resolution difference won't matter, you set each one individually.

I believe one of these thingys will do the job.

Just gotta work out whether its male or female and all that stuff. I believe it will need to be the blue end holes and white side pins.

I just hooked the laptop I'm on to another monitor to test it out, laptop is 1280 x 800 and other monitor is 1024 x 768, and the difference doesnt look too bad, because I will use it for static type things, such as word documents and programming code it won't be a issue really.

Yeah that's right. Once you go dual you won't go back :D

So whats the deal with wallpapers, is it just the same one as primary copied over or can I actually have one "stretch" across.

You should fetch Ultramon to do all your wallpaper tricks, and if you want to have a taskbar on the second screen.

Works like a charm. One question though, how do I make games go into dual screen? I set it as fullscreen but it just goes fullscreen on one of the monitors. Does the game need to have official dual screen support?

Okay I found a website (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com) but it doesnt really do the job it says, I'm doing it for CoD1, do I set fullscreen to yes or what? I'm trying to do 2048 by 800 lol.

Sorry for bump.

I bought an adapter on ebay and it arrived yesterday.

Is there any way to swap the monitor ID's in Ultramon? Basically, my big screen (main) wants to be on the right and have ID 1. and my second monitor (the smaller one) is on the left and wants to be ID 2. Right now they are the other way around (it was working fine until I removed one to use it has xbox 360 screen)

Not sure if it works with UltraMon, but if you go to Display settings in Windows you can just drag the 2nd monitor onto the other side of the 1st Monitor.

Not sure if that helps as I haven't tested it with UltraMon.

Yeah, that just sets location, doesnt actually change ID. But thanks anyway.

I had to shutdown and remove the smaller screen cable and reconnect, did the trick but means playing xbox on the bigger screen will be a pain =\

Just ignore the ID. As long as you set whatever display you want to use as primary it'll be fine.

Unplug them and then start your computer with the one you want as #1 plugged in. Then shut down, turn on again, then plug in #2.
