It's not bad at all. What sucks is the recovery. Good luck bro!

Ooh. Had mine taken out a few months back. Mine were okay, but some people wind up in excruciating pain! And there are even cases where people have died on the operating table! Best of luck! :awesome:

Good luck. (I'm just wondering, do most/all people have to go to get their wisdom teeth pulled at a certain age?)

@ madkiller: some people's wisdom teeth grow in, and some people never get them at all. If you do, though, odds are it'll be sometime between your late teens and early twenties.

My friend had hers since she was 12-13, and just got them pulled out last week (she's 16 now btw). Her's weren't bad, and neither were my brother's, who had his taken out last summer, at 17 years of age. And very few people have died, so you don't need to worry.
And yeah, good luck!

Getting a haircut is scarier than surgery, after all surgeons have a much better chance of gettin it right :downs:

I had my wisdom teeth taken out this past September. It really wasn't all that bad. I woke up after the surgery and didn't know where I was. My mouth was still numb. You'll have to keep changing the tissue in your mouth every so often, so there isn't blood everywhere. I would suggest just laying down all day with your head elevated and use an icepack. When I was hungry, I would eat nothing but yogurt and pudding. Make sure to always keep your mouth clean because there will be holes in your gums where the wisdom teeth were taken out, they will get infected if food gets down in there, it did happen to me. So anyway, Good Luck.

As long as you don't mind looking like a chipmunk for a few weeks, wisdom teeth getting pulled is rather uneventful.

Ghost, I demand pics after surgery.
Anyways, I never had my wisdom teeth pulled (yet) but I have had two molers pulled. Your lucky you'll be asleep during it, I was awake during mine and I could hear the teeth fucking cracking when they ripped them out. Didn't feel a thing though, until about 2 hours later. Just keep changing your gaughs every hour or so, depending on how much blood there is. And as CabooseJr said, only eat liquid type foods, like clear soup/broth, or some sort of yougurt or pudding that doesn't have any solids in it.

Wisdom teeth are nothing. I felt no pain (aside from the IV going in), had zero swelling (and I barely used an ice pack for maybe 30 minutes), and was able to get back on my computer immediately once I got home. I'm surprised I was even able to inhale enough gas with my chronic nasal infection, but it was fine.
Oh, and the drugs made every word spoken by the surgeon feel like a distant memory within a few seconds.
Your face will swell like a balloon.
Only if you have a bad surgeon/are unlucky.

Only if you have a bad surgeon/are unlucky.
Most often it's the unlucky part.
Getting wisdom teeth out sucks bigtime though. Oh well. At least Fox had Aliens on that night. :)
If you don't take the vicodin you could have panic attacks, but beware... Vicodin is VERY VERY VERY addictive. Why do all the cool drugs have to be addictive?

Withdrawals man. It's like coke. Few can taste the difference between caffeinated/non caffeinated but they get withdrawals if they don't keep getting caffeinated.

That's why I didn't take any drugs during my recovery! Took it like a man! >:U
Actually, I never even found the NEED for any, so hopefully the pain will be as minimal as mine was. Good luck, Ghost!

He's fine but the nurses fucking cringe.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled this monday. Its nothing to worry about Ghost. I was sitting there in the dentist chair and he said, "Ok were done." And I was like, "We are? I didn't even feel you pulling them." Thats how easy it is.
And as for pain after. Well it was really sore the same day, but right now its not bad at all. Just kinda hurts to chew stuff like chips sometimes.

Got mine way too early for some reason so I got mine pulled when I was like 9 or 10.
And yeah....there was supposed to be pain?
Neither before, nor after did it hurt...

Hey guys,
This is the first time in hour I've been able to get up from my bed. I'm not doing too great I'm in a lot more pain than I thought I would be. Have to take more pain meds than usual. My mouth is still bleeding after 6 hours and I can only feel half my face.
There are a lot of factors in how much pain you can have. Impacted teeth, proximity of the roots to major nerves, etc. Seems I just got unlucky.
I'll keep you all posted.
Hope everyone is having a better day than me =)
Oh P.S. I'm watching Lost in the meantime to get ready for the new season.

Make sure you use Alcohol-Free Mouthwash, otherwise it will slow down the healing process because of the alcohol. Trust me, i learned that when i got my snakebites a few weeks back.

I had all four teeth yanked out of my head at once. one was impacted, and all four were rather large. as a matter of fact, the two top ones had roots so long that they were concerned my nasal cavity would become larger, which it did, and one was impacted at 45 degrees, yes, comletely wedged under the other tooth. Oh, btw, this was while i was awake.
I hummed songs and played with surgical tools while they went at it.
Photographs of the teeth if anyone wants to see them. Yep, I kept them. don't want to lose my wisdom!
In short, suck it up, Ghost, suck it up.

Heh, yeah, I have two of my teeth as well in a little bag. I'll post pics later. They had to drill the other two up and pull out the pieces because they wouldn't be able to get them out or something. Snaf, likewise one of my teeth was millimeters away from my sinus cavity and another was really close to some huge nerve in my jaw.
I'm doing a bit better now. I may hop on TF2 or play around with something else.
EDIT: Oh yes, the right side of my face is swollen, but the left is just a bit swollen. Apparently it looks funny but I haven't looked in a mirror.

Getting my wisdom teeth removed was the most awesome thing ever. On nitrous while listening to Tool, Jimi Hendrix, and Foghat. Pure awesome. And it only hurt until the next day, but chewing and swallowing things was REALLY weird for a few weeks.

Mine have just come through. What do I do. They don't seem to be impacting me rather than the fact that my jaw now cracks every so often.
Also wikipedia to the rescue, turns out I have the two easiest kinds of wisdom teeth to remove, in the easiest places.
And Ghosty, this may help:
Bleeding and oozing is inevitable and should be expected to last up to three days (although by day three it should be less noticeable). Rinsing the mouth during this period is counter-productive, as the bleeding stops when the blood forms clots at the extraction sites, and rinsing out the mouth will most likely dislodge the clots. The end result will be a delay in healing time and a prolonged period of bleeding. However, after about 24 hours post-surgery, it is best to rinse with lukewarm saltwater to promote healing. This should be done twice a day until the swelling goes down and every 4-6 hours after that for at least a week. Gauze pads should be placed at the extraction sites, and then should be bitten down on with firm and even pressure. This will help to stop the bleeding, but should not be overdone as it is possible to irritate the extraction sites and prolong the bleeding or remove the clot. The bleeding should decrease gradually and noticeably upon changing the gauze. If the bleeding lasts for more than a day without decreasing despite having followed the surgeon's directions, the surgeon should be contacted as soon as possible. This is not supposed to happen under normal circumstances and signals that a serious problem is present. A wet tea bag can replace the gauze pads. Tannic acid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tannic_acid) contained in tea can help reduce the bleeding.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
Due to the blood clots that form in the exposed sockets as well as the abundant bacterial flora in the mouth, an offensive smell may be noticeable a short time after surgery. The persistent odor often is accompanied by an equally rancid-tasting fluid seeping from the wounds. These symptoms will diminish over an indefinite amount of time, although one to two weeks is normal. While not a cause for great concern, a post-operative appointment with your surgeon seven to ten days after surgery is highly recommended to make sure that the healing process has no complications and that the wounds are relatively clean. If infection does enter the socket, a qualified dental professional can gently plunge a plastic syringe (without the hypodermic needle) full of a mixture of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water or chlorohexidine gluconate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorohexidine_gluconate) which also comes in the form of a mouth wash into the sockets to remove any food or bacteria that may collect in the back of the mouth. This is less likely if the person has his wisdom teeth removed at an early age.

Oh god, I really hate surgery. There's a chance that I may have to have my wisdom teeth removed. It was bad enough when they pulled my premolars when I got braces (those teeth were probably the most well rooted teeth I had goddamn). Due to my really high metabolic rate, the anesthesia partially wore off while they were pulling my teeth, had to get more injections and then it completely wore off an hour later. So I hope I don't have to have my wisdoms pulled out.
Get well soon.
