Okay i was wondering if anyone knew a great program that even some game development companies use to make custom sounds such as ambient noises, gun shot noises, vehical noises like a engine running, waterfall running, etc. I just want to know if there is a program out there because i plan on making custom sounds for my map.

Obviously i didn't really explain myself. Well im trying to find out what game companies use for sound design. You know like how they use 3ds max for modeling. I'm trying to find the one program.

The mongoose is a mixture of a moped and a car.

You mostly record sounds from real life, then you edit them, change pitches and stuff to make a new sound.

I know of a few that I use:

Audacity
FruityLoops

The cheaper program to use is Audacity. If you want the stuff professionals usually run, its Pro Tools for Mac (very rarely PC) and SONAR for PC.

FruityLoops is just to make a sound, mostly used to make a background sound for music.

One I've seen the guys up at Lucasarts use (I have a relative who works up there in the Foley department) is Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com/). There's a free, completely-unlocked trial on their site, which you can get a lot of use out of before it locks up (I think it's after 100,000 total commands, which takes a while).

I used to use goldwave to "reduce vocals" in music. It was pretty bad-ass. But yeah, it was just an evaluation
