View Full Version : So I heard of this little game called Saints Row 2...

I'm downloading it off Steam right now (it's 20 bucks less than the 360 version). All my friends have said it's like GTA IV but instead of a superb story, incredible attention to detail, and an unparalleled level of immersion, it takes all that effort and puts it into the most over-the-top, re-donk-ulous activities possible. I've heard of the manure-spray minigame and the flaming quad-bike.
Did I just throw $40 down the toilet or is this game any good?

Yahtzee from the escapist gave it game of the year.
I played the first one on the 360 at my friends house a while back, it was a lot of fun. I spent a good 3 hours running over pedestrians and hangin out in some house thing.

Yeah, I know Yahtzee liked it, but you know how legitimate his reviews are :v:

For the most part, I agree with his opinions. They're certainly no less accurate than what you'll find in any other game-centric publication these days.
All the people who I asked and played both agree that Yahtzee hit the nail right on the head.

He also referred to Halo as having the depth of a spoon while simultaneously gushing over valve for making the Half Life series where your only method of approaching any given situation is to press left click a bunch. :|

You should never take Yahtzees's reviews seriously. SR2 does look good, havent played it, like you said storyline doesnt seem to be good, nothing compared to GTA 4. Its just wacky and a buck of laughs really. GTA 4 is kind of the serious game and SR2 is one you play and dont really care about anything apart from having a ton of fun.

Games need less realism, and fortunately, I hear that SR2 does just that.
Honestly, I went to a buddy's house with my 360 and played some GTA4 with him. Then for kicks, he hooked up his PS2 and we played some GTA3. I had so much more fun with GTA3.
He also referred to Halo 3* as having the depth of a spoon while simultaneously gushing over valve for making the Half Life series where your only method of approaching any given situation is to press left click a bunch. :|
But not before saying that he had never played a Halo game before he reviewed Halo 3 and admitting that it was most likely a "you had to be there" ordeal.
Also have you even played Half-Life 2? Or Half-Life?

Yeah... you can call Valve jerks... you can call Valve arrogant... but they do make good games and you can't take that away from them.
And Halo 3 was *very* disappointing. I think I played it twice after UT3's demo came out.

What Phopojijo said. I think I played Halo 3 for a week or so, then went back to wait for the Orange Box.
I own pretty much every Source game Valve has ever made, and at this point, I can say that I will never get mad at a Valve delay ever again. Each and every delay proves to be worth it in the end.
But enough about me sucking Valve's dick (which I do with sweet, sweet pride). I played both GTA4 and SR2 and thought SR2 was more fun. GTA4, like most games with potential, fucks everything up with an effort for realism that makes the disc scream from the drive with it. SR2 is like the crime genre's HL2: It may not be the absolute shiniest looking game in the world, but it A: doesn't put everything in dark blob land with bloom icing on top and B: is just more fun because the devs spent more time thinking "oh wait, gameplay is important isn't it?". Finally, let it be known that as long as a sandbox crime game does not have your motherfucking cousin ringing your phone like a clingy, shizophrenic girlfriend, it will be better about the concept of open world than GTA4. Open world does not mean being someone's fucking taxi.

Oh dear god I love this game. I wish there was a bigger selection of voice options though. I have a metrosexual by appearance and a gangster by voice and attitude. lol

Well to me these days multiplayer is a very important aspect of today's game and that's really what I hated most in SR2. Also I don't see how you guys DON'T like GTA IV. It isn't too real. I like how you can use the WHOLE CITY including traffic and pedestrian settings. Now that is sweet.

It was a fucking exaggeration, I've had Half-Life since it came out and I've only played through HL2 about 4 times (of course, if Steam community was up I could show you). Halo still has drastically more depth to its combat than Half-Life ever will which before anyone flies off the handle, doesn't mean I hate Half-Life or Valve. I could also mention the part where Yahtzee criticized Halo for being brightly colored and then turned right around and criticized other games for being too drab.
The point was, Yahtzee is full of shit as often as not.

Arg fucking Steam servers are shitting up. I'm stuck at 36%.
Community's down for maintenance, which probably has something to do with it.
Anyways, by the sounds of it, it would have been a waste if I got it for 360, but cutting $20 off should make it worth the money.
