I've ordered a new laptop, a xxodd XNi860tu (it's a custom dutch brand, top quality :))
It has:
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (2,53Ghz)
4Gb DDR 3 (1066Mhz)
Nvidia 9800m-GS 1GB GDDR3
15" widescreen TFT-screen with ClearView
WSXGA+ @ 1680x1050 pixels
Intel PM45 + ICH9M chipset
160GB 5400RPM Serial-ATA (8Mb cache)
DVD-/+ dual layer rewriter with LightScribe technology (I didn't choose blu-ray since those disc are too expensive)
Gigabit LAN ethernet
Bluetooth ClassII versie 2.0 with EDR(Enhanced Data Rate).
Intel WiFi Link 5100 300Mbps wireless network module (802.11 a/b/g/n)
2,0 Megapixel webcam
Fingerprint reader
DVI naar VGA converter
7-in-1 Cardreader
This for a mere 1345€ thats about 1804 USD.
3 weeks till it gets here :d Finally I'll be able to play some more recent games with more details.
I hope I did a good deal, I myself find I did so, tell me what you think :p

You guys usually get raped on hardware prices, so that looks ok. Didn't need DDR3 and that slow HDD though...

That's the same thing as a Sager NP8660, for those of you who are familiar. Clevo makes the computer, and then retailers sell it. You could get the same thing in the States with a Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz, 6MB cache) CPU and a 320GB 7200rpm (16MB cache) hard drive for $1636.
I myself was looking at one of those, but I decided to wait and see which college I'm attending before buying a computer (Full Sail wants Macs, UAT doesn't care). It is a very good machine.
Also, for notebook hard drives, 5400rpm is no different than 7200rpm at capacities of 320GB or less. Has something to do with platter density.

Wow, my desktop pc just got owned. Pretty swank laptop, dont do what my friend did and drop it a week after you get it. Screen cracked, £400 down the drain within a week.

That's why I love my Macbook Pro, I've dropped it, it's been kicked around in my backpack in classes, and gone through a number of other trials and still runs like it did when I bought it.

did he have insurance on it? insurance usually covers things like this.
when i bought the laptop that i am currently posting from, which was about 2 years ago, the guy at the store said that the insurance policy covered gun shot damage. he said i could go out back, shoot the laptop, then bring it back in, and my insurance on it would replace it free of charge. fire damage, however, is not covered, which is bullshit.
my insurance policy paid off last summer when my computer decided to go into a coma. i sent the thing in, and my 200$ insurance policy covered an entirely new screen and motherboard.
insurance ftw

I will replace that hdd with a faster one I have around here somewhere, and the nice thing is it won't void the warranty :)

Beats the crap out of my NVidia integrated chipset, too :/
Not a bad price for a notebook computer, I suppose. Hope the new rig works out, Beele!

I'm cheap, so I will get this in one or two months.
MSI GX610 Neo GX610-100 TL-56 1.8GHz 15.4" 160GB HDD 2GB PC2-5300 (DDR2-667) 802.11b/g DL DVD +- R at ZipZoomfly (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10007888) With a Radeon HD 2600 The radeon is almost as good as the 8600m GT. I don't really need a super fast processor. I'm using an athlon 64 X2 3800+ at 2.0ghz and it is working fine for me.
Cheap laptop for playing my source games. Only $680.99

Why? Its great, it gives you so much more usable space on your screen. and yes it is possible to have that resolution

slow HDD though...
It's rotational speed, doesn't matter that much. I'm using a 5400rpm hdd and I have noticed very little difference in startup time between my laptop and my desktop (7200rpm for the latter). Lower rotational speed = longer battery life, too.
Nice laptop, although the $1804 price is steep it is worth it for the Geforce 9800MGS and it's more worthwhile than the Macbook Pro.

I doubt it because I have a 15"
And that doesn't go anywhere close to a 1680x1050 resolution.

Actually I've seen a lot of Dell XPS's with 1680x1050 rez on 15" screens. 1440x900 is more common though, and 1280x800 was previously the standard.
In fact that Dell XPS notebook with a Mobility Radeon 9800 (broke ground in 2004) had a 1920x1200 rez on a 15.4" screen. Now that was overkill, it made things a bit tiny on the screen. Masterz1337 might be able to relate to this, I think he owned that model once.

Old laptop is old, that's why. 15.4" can reach even WUXGA (1920x1200) resolutions too. I don't recommend it since most laptops can't run games at decent settings with a resolution that high, but it can be had.
Also, MSI just released their G725-07x (http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT725-075US-17-Inch-Laptop-2-53Ghz/dp/B001N44U94/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232059997&sr=8-2) series, which sports a Radeon HD4850 512MB. For $1600, you also get 4GB of DDR2 800 (better than DDR3 to me) and a P9500 Core 2 Duo (2.53GHz), as well as a 17" screen with a 1920x1200 resolution (typo on Amazon has it listed as 1920x1080). Also comes with built-in 5.1 speakers and a built-in sound card with audio ports for external 5.1. Pretty slick, in opinion.

pretty nice for $1600, but IMO 17" is a bit too big for me. My carrying case won't even fit it.

Well, considering what it is, you shouldn't be carrying it around all the time anyways. The Sager NP8660 is better suited for carrying around, but the trade-off is power. The Mobility 4850 is better than the 9800M GTX and DDR2 has lower latencies than DDR3, but yes, the laptop is bigger.
