Alright, so my dad's computer crashed. So far what I've done is took over a 20gig HDD and installed Windows on it. He wants to get all of his files off the old HDD that I just swapped to a Slave. The data is in "\documents and settings\owner," unfortunately it has some sort of permissions on it that will not allow me in.

So I went and got my old Slax disc and booted up into Linux via LiveCD. I can view the files, but I really need to transfer them over to the new harddrive so I can format this one. Any ideas since this distro of Slax can't write to NTFS, hell I don't even know if there are other distros that can.

I just need the data, if there is any way to remove the protection that the last Windows installtion set or bypass it that would be great to know. Thanks

Sorry, it's been a while since I've dilly-daddled with Linux, and my Slax disc is from 2004. Can they do what I need? Yes/No?

I'll go search around on their sites, and see which one I like better while I wait for your reply.

This really works and Ubuntu 8.10 is pretty cool. I'm quadruple booting with two Windows XP partitions and a Windows 7 Beta partition lol.
