^A group can eat a large chicken in less than a minute. They probably can eat a whole human if they ever had the chance to eat all of that guy, in less than 10 minutes.
I feel really bad that this guy had to die a horrible death. I can't imagine being eaten alive like that. Gives me chills and actually gives me some respect. People eat fish and fish eat people....what a screwed up system.

Leave the man in there for longer, and the piranhas will eat him completely down to the bone very quickly (I'm serious). Those fishies have really sharp teeth and swift speed.
Holy shit...I wanted to believe that was a movie prop and not a real corpse...sucks for that guy.

I thought that was only what piranhas did in cartoons.
This is really not gory at all, they ate all the things that normally make people squeamish...it's a skeleton wearing a skin-jumpsuit.
Seriously, looks like a skeleton with some skin on top, like something the Gestapo would have made and then taken pictures of for lulz.

Holy Fuck! I am speakless, if fish can do that.... eat flesh from every where in your body, that is crazy. They stripped his body from flesh. I am staying away from them.
My dad has got a silver doller as well which is a tropical fish and looks like a piranha. I am keeping away from it.

Probably they mean a RECORDED case, I'm sure it has happened to many tribal Aboriginals in South America where some of their rivers are teeming with piranhas.
If you can swim fast, though, you can probably escape a piranha assault with only a few bite wounds here and there, nothing that a doctor can't patch up. This man...he was "delayed."

Piranhas aren't the man-eaters folklore would suggest; you're much more likely to lose a toe, according to the results of a new survey of piranha attacks in Suriname.
Humans are much more likely to be bitten when piranhas are removed from the water when fishing than they are while bathing in the water, the study claims.
"Many human deaths attributed to piranhas are probably cases of scavenging on drowned or otherwise already dead persons", says Jan Mol of the University of Suriname, who has just published the results of a study on human attacks by piranha.
"In 15 years of field work in Suriname, often wading for hours through 'piranha-infested' streams and catching piranhas with hook and line while bathing in the river, I was never injured by free-swimming piranhas.
"Piranhas are usually more dangerous out of the water than in it and most bites occur on shore or in boats when removing a piranha from a gillnet or hook, or when a 'loose' piranha is flopping about and snapping its jaws."
Other studies have come to similar conclusions, but Mol suggests that under some situations the risk of piranha attack is very real.
"In the low-water season, when hungry fishes become concentrated in pools, some piranha species may be dangerous to any animal or human that enters the water."

Also, it's quite indecent to upload photos of the guy's corpse on the internet, especially if this story is true.
He died a horrible death, just let him have some dignity by not letting the whole world see his mutilated corpse.

I'll tell you, piranhas are vicious little creatures. People that aren't bleeding are unlikely to be attacked by these fish, but if you are bleeding, well, it's likely that you'll be attacked. I had a relative of the piranha, a red belly pacu, and i made the mistake of putting my hand in the tank to fix some plants, and though it is primarily a vegetarian, they will readily eat other fish, especially injured ones. Blood puts them into feeding mode, much like with sharks.

Sadly, the news, with the exception of the morning news, only shows tragic material, which gives people the impression that the world is an entirely unsafe place. That's how they keep people coming back to boost ratings. People don't want to see it, but it's put on the news for dramatic effect so people watch it the next time for a development or different story. This is a good example. I agree with you.

People are nosey. Its human nature to be curious. Anyone who clicked the thread is :P
I've seen some pretty horrifying stuff, my sister works as a 999 call operator. She showed me pictures of a man who crashed into a tree, his car caught fire and it got so hot, his head literally exploded. It was disgusting. I felt bad for looking, seeing this man's remains showcased in the photos, his headless body just slumbed up. It also got me thinking about my driving, and how it only takes one minor mistake and you could instantly pay the price.

Pacu's are awesome, and they grow fuckign HUGE.
Piranas are very very dangerous in low water, because there simply isnt enough food to support them all. so when they go into those closely packed schools they actually turn on one another.
1 pirana is picked at random and the entire swarm picks him to the bone in seconds.
its insane.

Buddy of mine works at a near-by petland, ad he always trys to get the Piranhas to take a bite of his hand, but they won't attack unless in a large school.
They just know that something WAY bigger than them is attached to the other end of that hand.

Those fish don't look like piranhas now that I look at it. Compare to the Wiki article. Actual Piranhas are much more vertically flat than what's shown in the page about the attack, and one of the fish doesn't seem to have teeth. It could just be the angle though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piranha
I think it's probably fake.

I really think that's fake. A small/medium group of piranhas are way to small to strip a human of his flesh in a quick time.
Also, it didn't discuss me. When you play games where people's bodies fly all over, have a good amount of gore, and people have their bodies broken into chucks or bones constantly, you start to get..well not used to it...but able to ignore it/not get grossed out.

Ah, now I feel safe to say that part of me thought the pictures were as fake as BME Pain Olympics.
Piranhas can strip a human of his flesh eventually, but if the time frame is as short as you say then yes this has to be fake.
I posted sympathetic stuff earlier even though I kinda suspected it was fake because everyone else was saying that and I didn't want to risk getting flamed. For me the biggest reason why I suspected a fake was the fact that these pics were even uploaded at all, I mean seriously do reporters have any decency?

A HUGE indicator is that the eyes have no holes to connect to the brain, but are just pits. And how would the piranhas cleanly strip the humans head PERFECTLY without fucking up the skull?
One last thing, the guy was hollowed, but guess what? His bones weren't crushed or broken, and his skin was still in place most places. I didn't even think piranhas hollowed out victims, I thought they ate at the flesh on the outside (or at least they start there).

Piranhas are also as mistaken as sharks are when it comes to ferocity. In most scenarios, piranhas don't want anything to do with humans. If someone jumps in and messes with them or their homing grounds on purpose, then they're fucked. They are also probably sensitive to blood like sharks are too.
