So, I get a warning from a windows popup that i'm running low on disk space. I go to check out what's taking up so much space, and it turns out that Trend Micro Antivirus is taking up 53 gigs of space in the "components" folder.

I googled what the heck that's all about and I have not found any answers, and I'm confused, especially since it says 75.99mb in my add/remove programs list.

If anyone can tell me if i can delete all this or not, i'd really appreciate it.

wow.
Exactly what I said. lol...

Never heard of a problem like this myself, but if it persists I'd look into uninstalling and finding a new AV.

Maybe you have that many viruses that your computer remembers. Stop watching internet porn, that might help.

It's sad how prostitutes can get you viruses in real life AND on the internet :(

I don't have one, only fools wrap their tools. I use the pull-out method. But that sounds good.

ok, considering nothing turns out to be a virus or malware or any other BS, I'm ditching this tomorrow.

LIST YOUR ANTIVIRUS RECOMMENDATIONS. I don't do that free antivirus crap. The last time I did that, it corrupted windows.

I was gonna recommend AVG, then I read the comment about free AV. It's as good as free antivirus can get though, really.

I really ought to check out some other AV programs at some point. If I do I'll see if I can give any recommendations

AVG:

-Does scans when you want it to.
-Will delete viruses on contact
-Will keep a few things in a vault for study or for deleting
-Right-click scan menu (so that even when it isn't running I can find if something is legitimate or not).
-It also comes with REVERSI!!! /jk

And you get all of this for free.

As the other guy said get AVG. Free is okay or can you torrent AVG Internet Security. I've used AVG for years and it has always done what it needed for me, tried switching to two different AVs to test them out and always kept coming back.

If you're willing to shell out the bucks, get a corporate edition of Symantec AV or Norton AV.

I used to have a copy, and I never had the issues people are always bitching about with the normal Norton packages.

NOD Freaking 32.

What type of files are found in that Components folder?

Phopojijo

Yeah I heard good things about Nod32 and Kaspersky.

But let's face it... just because you had a virus even with Antivirus installed doesn't mean the antivirus package sucks.

It just means that viruses these days are getting too good for AV packages.

Which is why you need to pay attention to locking down your computer before you worry about putting a guard on the door.

Just get Kaspersky.

You can even get it now from Staples with Tax Cut for $20 (buy Tax Cut Home for $20 and Kaspersky for $80, get an $80 rebate).

NOD32 is also good, but I had a case just a week ago where it wouldn't pick up some malware.

^This. Whatever you think about free AV, crush that thought and throw it away. Never had any problems with Avast, and as far as I know it doesn't corrupt windows, since as I said I've had no problems :v:

I used two programs for my computer, COMODO Internet Security, and Spybot Search and Destroy.

Comodo is an Antivirus, Firewall, and has a Defense Feature (called Defense+), which protects your registry, your programs, files, and the like.

Spybot Im sure you heard of, Keeps Spyware, Adware and Malware away.

I think its a good combo, it works for me.

It was either AVG or Avast that totally fucked me over. Anyways, I picked up Kaspersky, it is awesome. Thanks guys.
