I've seen a number of these sorts of things with some very interesting price ranges. This is acceptable, but I'd rather spend the many hours it takes to custom-build my own (with cameras, lasers, a turnable, and a whole lot of image processing...)

David Laserscanner does the same thing and its free, you just need to do the motions with a flatline laser by hand, and turn the object 15 degrees every so often. My laser broke and I need to buy another one, otherwise I would've shown a quick example.

I saw this a while ago at my sister's college. People were making sculptures and scanning them to add more detail in zbrush. But I heard there was a new method when you put an object into some sort of gell and the computer can instantly make a realtime 3d image of what ever the object Displaces, Calculates mass, density, etc.
