As some of you know and most of you don't care, I've been working on my very own open-source PHP Web Framework for the better part of a year now. It's been going by the working title "Spacebrick Web Framework", since it has its origins in "Spacebrick 2.0 (http://spacebrick.net)", which was to be my online portfolio circa 2006 (but I got a bit carried away with it).
Points of interest:
The framework including the User, Forum, Private Message, and Timecard plugins is currently about 10-15,000 lines of self-documenting PHP, Javascript, and CSS, with a code to comment ratio of about 3:1.
The Forum plugin is currently missing a ton of functionality but has the potential to offer every feature of vBulletin and then some.
A brief Google search turned up "Drupal (http://drupal.org/)" as a likely point of comparison (which is, sadly and not the least bit surprisingly, much more powerful than mine).
Erm, anyway, long story short, I'm thinking of calling it "Greeble" (see the wikipedia definition of greeble (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greeble)).
So, what do you think, is that a good name for a PHP framework? If you think Greeble is a bad name and you think you've got a better one, please let me know.

I think Greeble is a very appealing name for this, just make sure nobody confuses it with the 3dsmax plugin ;)

As I've told you before, go with it.

No offense Snaf, I do value your opinion, but I just want to be extra sure because it's gonna be a big pain in the ass to update all my documentation with the correct name and resulting naming conventions. As Curtis Creamer pointed out in a talk I watched today, it's usually more useful to test with a general population rather than your friends/coworkers, because they only represent a particular subset, possibly blind to something the general populous would otherwise pick up on.

Sounds like a nasty gremlin or some sort of horrific petite nasty scraggle.

Greeble? Hmm, I keep thinking of the word greedy, partly because I'm staring at snaf's sig.
I think its a good name, question is would someone association it with a forum?

Remove one or more of the vowels so it sounds more Web-2.0ish.

Was doodling in class today, came up with this. Looking at it now, it looks heavily inspired by ripped off from the Digg logo.
What do you think?

You should have gone with Endrin. Is $20 too much for the domain?
Also, so that's what those things are called...

^ I'm starting to seriously consider Endrin as a name...
The website where the source and documentation could be found would be:
http://endr.in
as opposed to
http://greeble.net
What do you guys think?
Endrin sounds cooler, but might not be as easy to remember as Greeble.

Sounds like the name of an incredibly whiny evil anime character tbh.
Or one of those really bad horror films which had a budge of about 5000$ and the monsters run around with just masks and no full costumes.
Name it something from the pokemon universe or something :awesome:

Why would you name it after an insecticide? So there can be massive irony when you discover all the bugs in your programming?

So that he can pay me for the domain :)

i loled. Definitely can't call it endrin now. But, if I ever make a bug tracking module to it, I'll call the module endrin. :)
