So urh....What do you think guys? Should I get it? I wouldn't normally consider a notebook for gaming, until I saw that new GPU.

Lmao @ price. Seems like a pretty good value for the money, go for it.

The price looks pretty good, get it if you are comfortable with hauling around a heavy 17" machine. If you'd like something smaller, MSI does make 15.4" notebooks with Geforce 8800Ms too, the 8800 chipset is a little old now but still cuts it.

But if the laptop ever runs into problems, don't expect MSI to be of much help. MSI's reliability is ok afaik, better than Alienshit, but the tech support is lackluster.

If you find that you may often run into situations where you need to use the laptop on battery power, though (like me), then getting such a powerful GPU isn't such a good idea. If the laptop's going to spend most of its time plugged in, then this is a fine choice.

What is the likelyhood of it BSOD or some other shit happening as soon as I booted it up? Would I be screwed then? That's what I'm afraid of happening. :(

MSI's reliability is ok like I said, I doubt there's a high chance of BSODs and stuff. MSI also makes discrete desktop components btw, like mobos. The warranty is standard fare.

If you're willing to pay a $1337 price, go right ahead. It's just that my friend bought an MSI mobo once and there was some kind of issue, and so he called MSI technical support, first of all it took some time for them to get an English-speaker on the line, second of all the person giving "support" said entirely redundant things. Dunno about what others think.

If you want half an hour of battery life go for it!

haha, half an hour battery life...if he plays Crysis on battery he'll probably last 15 min.

But turning off bluetooth/wifi and lowering the screen brightness should get at least an hour of battery life. There are also software utilities to underclock the GPU when you're not gaming, thus reducing heat and power consumption.

MSI's support sucks so fucking bad it's not even funny.

no shit, they're terrible. Taiwanese electronics = allright reliability, impossible to get help from source company. Already had such an issue with an ASUS EEE despite being able to speak their language.

Didn't I post this earlier in another thread? ;)

If I were you I'd fork out the extra $250 to get the Blu-Ray and faster CPU. Also, if you do get it, get XOTIC's services with it, since MSI is not going to be much help. XOTIC is supposedly really great about their customer support.

I might get the services, but I'm really pushing it with CAD $1700 price. :(

Well, since you are in Canada, don't bother with the services, since they do USA only for that.

The only place where you can get acceptable service from Asus/MSI/Acer is in Taiwan itself since they have actual brick-and-mortar retailers there. But no one's going all the way into a place where they are unlikely to speak the language just to get tech support for a laptop.
