I have HDTV LG make screen hooked up to my computer. It is using a VGA cable going to a converter, then the PC. (VGA>DVI).

Problem is, I tried turning on the computer last night, and it loads up fine bios and all that stuff. But Once it finishes showing the windows thing loading, it then has a "Invalid Format" message on the screen. I tried re-starting the computer over 40 times. I re-setted the bios.

I thought it might be the hard-drive, but when I move it to another computer as a primary, it works. I took a screen and replaced it with my HDTV screen and works.

So I know the computer doesn't have problems, or the hard drive.

So my last worry was if it was the screen. Thing is, I put another computer, and the screen works fine.

Anyone know why only on the certain computer it wont work? The OS on the computer is XP.

Ty for any help.

Invalid format? What format is your Harddrive?

If its a output error it maybe the computer is giving a frequency output that is not supported by the screen.
If it is a windows error then i don't really know what the issue maybe but im guessing its the first one.

I think its the first one too. Any way of fixing this. The screen worked fine before. :(

VGA doesnt support higher resolutions than 1600X1200 (or was it 1280X1024?) anyway the highest resolution I got my pc to goto on my TV through VGA was 1280X768. Then I switched to HDMI and it went up much higher.

If you have windows loading in a higher resoltuion than what I said above that may be the reason you're getting these errors. Try using HDMI or DVI to transmit video data to the TV.

When I use a HDMI cable's, it makes the quality of the screen really bad. The colors look like they went in a recycle bin and out..

I have no choice unless someone knows how to get the screen to work. (Re-formatting is not an option) :(

I have an LG 42LG50. I use VGA to pump out 1920x1080 resolution from my X1600PRO. I had to preset my settings on my monitor to that resolution in Catalyst Control Center (Using TV format parameters) and then I can't remember if I rebooted my PC with the VGA cable already attached to the TV or if I hot plugged it in while my PC was running already.

Idk, must depend on the TV then, because VGA limited me to 1280X768.

And Josh, if it works in HDMI mode, then change the video settings to something that you think would work in VGA mode and then reload it in VGA.
