Also one of my friends had his removed last year, his face swelled up so much, and judging by his breath it was too painful to brush his teeth lol.

Heh... in my case, the wisdom teeth were cut out of my gums before they grew in. That was so they wouldn't mess up teeth already in my mouth due to crowding.

Mine weren't painful at all. I felt perfectly fine (mb a little sleepy), even right after coming out of surgery. No swelling, no nothing. :awesome:

sounds like some random halucination i had a long time ago, it lasted for like 10 seconds and went away, never did figure out what it was from, I was completely straitedged back then so no it wasn't drug related.
Mine are actually coming in, they seem to have enough space but i havent seen a dentist yet so idk what the outcome will be. I have like the top two almost all the way done, and then one bottom one poking through about half way and then the other one is non existant at this point..... I can't even feel anything where it shud be XD so i have no idea, mb i was born with a defect and i only have 3 lawl.

Guys... I missed the cloth I was supposed to drool my blood onto while napping, so there's a fist sized pool of sticky blood-saliva on my pillow...
:gonk:
At least I didn't roll my head around in it while I was asleep...

Wisdom teeth are extracted for two general reasons: either the wisdom teeth have already become impacted, or the wisdom teeth could potentially become problematic if not extracted. Potential problems caused by the presence of properly grown-in wisdom teeth include infections caused by food particles easily trapped in the jaw area behind the wisdom teeth where regular brushing and flossing is difficult and ineffective. Such infections may be frequent, and cause considerable pain and medical danger. Another reason to have a wisdom tooth removed is if the tooth has grown in improperly, causing the tongue to brush up against it. The tongue can tolerate it for a limited time, until it causes a painful sensation, to the point where the sheer pain can numb the tongue affected, and the area around it (part of the lips, and the cheek). The numbness feels similar to the feeling of anesthesia, possibly meaning a nerve can be affected by the wisdom tooth improperly growing in. Also, it is a wise choice to have them removed if undergoing extensive orthodontic work because once the teeth have come in they could inflict some damage on expensive straightening.
For health reasons.
E:
Potential uses for extracted teeth
In August 2008, it was revealed that scientists in Japan were able to successfully harvest stem cells from wisdom teeth.[15] This discovery is of great clinical importance, as wisdom tooth extractions are a relatively common type of oral surgery. Patients who have their wisdom teeth removed may eventually be able to opt to have stem cells from those teeth isolated and saved, in case they should ever need the cells.
Interesting...

Same here. I don't even have my 12 year old molars yet. In fact, I just lost all my baby teeth this past summer. I'm 17. :|

I'm kinda weird. One of my teeth mutated and moved a bit forward. The teeth to its right then shifted a bit left and now the mutant tooth overlaps over two adjacent teeth behind. The shift created some extra space, so now the wisdom teeth (I'm starting to feel them a bit) on the right of my mouth are allowed to just grow, but the ones of the left side (where there aren't any mutant teeth) may need removal.

When I got my teeth pulled, the painkillers made me so stupid I forgot how and where to pee. I have a funny story about that in a chatlog somewhere..

Did you keep your wisdom teeth? I did.
Yes, that is some jawbone stuck in the top one, and the mid left one is cut in half. Not too bad of an experience. I actually hummed while they did it, and played with the tools.
The surgeon also said that they were notably large teeth, even for wisdom teeth.

is it the 4th tooth after the Canine thats your wisdom tooth?
if so my top came in and i didnt notice, my bottoms are coming in now.
sucks dick cause food is getting caught between the teeth and the gums it's coming through.
and no amount of finger picking can ever dislodge it.
have to resort to toothpicks :smith:

had this done in December. It sucked. Oxycodone was ...interesting.
Wait until they heal, and food gets stuck in the holes and starts to smell/taste like shit.

Thing with my removal was this:
1) They hadn't grown in all the way yet, so they couldn't just yank them, they had to cut through a bunch of gum and stuff to get at them.
2) They were removed because I already have bad teeth, and these would have only made placement worse.
3) I had this surgery done under anesthetic, so the surgery wasn't bad at all, recovery though... Fuck this.

Mind the bump, but I just got mine pulled today (well, yesterday, technically).
They were underdeveloped and still in the bone, so they had to go into my bone to get them out. It still hasn't clotted yet, so I've been losing a lot of blood, I have to drink a lot of fluids to try to minimize the shaking I'm experiencing.
Oddly enough, it doesn't hurt that badly...

Exactly how mine went, except it was to prevent my teeth from going bad.. If they had come out would have caused crowding.
