View Full Version : FEAR 2 Install Error

So I picked up my copy of FEAR 2 today, pop in the disc, run setup, and BAM get hit with an error. (Im running vista ultimate SP1)

"Internal Error 2203. C:\Windows\Installer\2df8a96.ipi, -2147287035"

This happens durring the steam setup...
A quick google search tells me it's a permissions error...

I have run setup.exe as administrator
I have UAC turned off
I have taken ownership of the users/windows/program files folders
I have manually gone to the windows folder and set system and admin to "full control"
I am complete administrator of this machine

I then download the steam installer from steam's website and same issue.

What the hell...I just want to play my game

Had to unhide programData folder, go into C:\programData\Microsoft\Windows and set permissions on admin to full control, and uncheck "read only"

Yeah I somehow doubt you needed to do all of that.

As for the OS -- that's security for you.
You can't just modify any folder willy-nilly because the computer doesn't know if you're even human.

Well I tried after every step and it only worked after that...
I should NEVER have to do that with ANY operating system...to install a legally purchased game...XP never did this..

I should NEVER have to do that with ANY operating system...to install a legally purchased game...XP never did this..XP also had viruses routinely install without your knowledge or consent.

Try installing any program in Linux that's not in the repository :p You'll get very intimate with the SUDO command-line analogy to UAC.

heres a New one...I try to launch the game a steam spits out:


This game is currently unavailable. Please Try again another time.

-steam says the game is released the 12th, and It wont let me play it

DAMNIT!!!! LET ME PLAY MY FUCKING GAME!!
