Well, I used to think Linksys routers were good, but it appears I was mistaken. I have had 3 in the past 3 years- each of them quit on me after pretty much exactly one year. I don't want to fork over a hundred bucks every year for a piece of hardware that should last me 3-4.
This latest failure is extremely bizarre, however. I'm trying to download the 1.01 patch for Mirror's Edge. Whenever the download gets to 10%, my network goes down. I left my computer pinging my other computer on the same network while I downloaded.
1%, ping's fine, 2%, ping's fine
... 10%, and the ping immediately starts reporting instead that the destination host is unreachable.
There's a status light on the router. Green is good, orange means it's busy doing something (can't remember what), red is bad. As soon as the download reaches 10%, the light just turns off.
I've tried this four times now, and each time it happens exactly the same, exactly at 10%. It cannot possibly be a coincidence.
What the fuck kind of error is this? It's like a cell phone that drops your call every time you say the word "Sasquatch."
This is Chewbacca. He is a wookie that lives on the planet Kashyyk. Now think about that for a second. That. Does not. Make. Sense.
Will be calling linksys tech support tomorrow...
In the meantime I've cut out the middleman and hooked my computer straight into my modem via a 50 foot LAN cable wrapped all around my apartment. >.<
