My favorite thing to do in 1st grade (I think it was first at least... who can remember?) was computer time. An hour a day, we got to play on the computers (Apple ][, baby), which all had the best game ever loaded on them - Oregon Trail (http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html) (click that link to play it online - sweet). Fight dysentery! Ford rivers! Hunt! Not only was I blazing across the 1848 frontier, as a carpenter from Illinois with my 4 companions, I was also... learning. Egads.
According to IGN (http://wireless.ign.com/objects/143/14321599.html), Gameloft (http://www.gameloft.com/) is developing an iPhone version of the popular 80s game, complete with updated graphics (although I would pay double if there was an option in the game to use original graphics).

No word yet on pricing or specific release date (IGN just says "February 2009"), so keep on the lookout.

Incredible Machine was the best. Nothing like bouncing little kids around pinball bumpers and blowing them up.

I still have the game installed and play it from time to time. I love it.

Basically (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oregon_Trail_%28computer_game%29), you go across America via the Oregon trail getting fucked by Snakes, raped by disease and owned by rivers. From what I remember, you basically jump from fort to fort along the way to resupply your wagon. From time to time you can stop to hunt, where you cause the extinction of numerous animal species. Occasionally you have to go across a river somehow; this usually coincides with the end of one of your party-members.
Then you go fuck up Native Americans for drug money or something.
<3 that game.

Is this the 2D one where you can hunt the animals from an overhead veiw (ground was black in the version I'm talking about)?
I loved that game. 'twas epic.

I used to play this game so much! It's pretty fun, but I still can't make it through more than 1/4th of it. I still have it, but it's not installed. Mine was the same as the old one, only remade and from the late 1990s/early 2000s to have color, but it was still 2d, and the interface was still the same.
It's from Elementary advantage 2002 (http://www.superkids.com/aweb/pages/reviews/multisub/other/elad2002/merge.shtml), and is the Oregon trail made my MECC. Remade with color to look a bit better.

awesome, I remember playing this on the class iMac in 5th grade back in California. Loved it, fun times. Too bad I own neither an iPhone nor an iTouch but I'm hoping it'll come to Windows Mobile 6 PDAs.

OH SHIIIT!
I remember this in elementary school, for sure. Apple IIGS computers with this game. I must have played it a hundred times or more, and I actually beat it twice. Freakin' hard game... but fun as hell! I had totally forgotten this.
What is this, though; was I in the only Canadian elementary school that had computers with this game on it? I seriously doubt it!

Lol. I remember we had Cross-Country Canada. Any Canadians here remember that? X3

Absolutely! I played Cross-Country Canada over and over. Always got caught for speeding. By the end of grade two, I still couldn't type worth a crap, but if there was a contest for someone who could type in the word SPEED and press enter, I could've won that one easily.
Tons of great games on those Apple IIGS computers... Electrifying Adventures, Cross-Country Canada, Oregon Trail... and a ton of others. I think there was one that everyone played involving pizza delivery?

If you want to teach people to type, just get them addicted to web forums. :-3

OH GOD NO. Then the epidemic of kids-saying-internet-acronyms-in-real-life will get even worse.
I'd get excited about this if I posessed or desired an iPhone, but...

iPod touch mb? The apps are compatible with both. But the iTouch is still a bit overpriced for me.
