If everyone had 1440x900+ displays and posted full-size screenshots thereof, you would need a display >1440x900+ to view it without stretching.

I wouldn't say they don't exist. My buddy bought a 22" monitor (well, roughly 22") that runs 1920x1080 for his PS3 (got a heck of a deal online; I'm mad I got one that's only 1680x1050 even though scaled 1080->1050 still looks gorgeous from mine). I don't think it's unrealistic that one can find a 22" that runs 1920x1200.

What you've got going is the bastard child that Windows had with Mac OS Tiger, which then raped Leopard.

Mac OS X 10.5
http://www.mac-house-calls.com/images/leopard_desktop.png
Note the semitransparent toolbar at the top, the realtime reflections in the dock, and the lack of a quick launch bar, programs in the top bar.

Why bother making your OS look like another? Waste of time and system resources to be honest.

If you want something that (can) look(s) and runs similar to Mac OS, get a distro of Linux.

No, the mouse moves off screen because the very tip of the arrow is what clicks on things. If the arrow stopped when its edges hit the screen limits, you'd be losing about 16-32 px of clickable space, making it damn hard to use the taskbar.

Besides, 640/4 = 480/3 = 160. 640/5 = 128 and 480/4 = 120. Fullscreen resolution isn't a 5:4 ratio.

Anyway, special thanks to Timo for the image used in my wallpaper.

Huh, Newegg is misleading then. I quote:

"Aspect ratio is the width to height proportion of a display. Non-widescreen LCDs have an aspect ratio of 5:4, similar to a standard television set's aspect ratio of 4:3. Widescreen LCDs boast 16:9 or 16:10 dimensions to better display movie formats."

That's where I got that from, never took the time to divide out resolutions before.

However, 1280x1024 is 5:4, which is strange. And there's nothing that is that far over on the task bar that you need to click; the last thing is the clock (Windows 7 notwithstanding...I dunno what that little tab is, and it looks to be clickable without going over the edge as well), and that is easily click-able without the mouse even touching the edge of the screen.

EDIT: Also, to clear up the aspect ratio thing: All pixels are roughly square. You can get the aspect ratio of any display by dividing the width by the length.

Also, many older displays (1024x768, etc.) had a 4:3 ratio. Only recently have 5:4 ratios been used, alongside 16:9 and 16:10.

am i the only one that uses RemoveArrow (http://www.hivclan.net/stuff/RemoveArrow.zip) ?

look at my desktop (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showpost.php?p=376840&postcount=131) and see how much better the shortcut icons look without that fucking arrow covering half of it.

You should download ViOrb so that you don't have that cut-off Start Orb, and so you can get legit Windows Vista start bar features (including the type search and file organisation).

How'd you merge the two taskbars?

Warsaw
March 25th, 2009, 05:58 PM
All you have to do is right click on one task-bar and add all the features that the second one has, and then delete the second one. Easy.

I keep the default layout of GNOME, because there's not much about it that one can make better. I only use a dock when I skin it to look like Leopard, but I already own OSX, so there's no point to that either.

Now it's nice and clean and even boots in 20 seconds (http://ogunderground.com/gallery.php?do=img&i=8).
