Don't think this has been posted but the Scout update is coming next week on February 24th. The Sandman is the first on the list and to me looks like its going to be real fun.
What do you guys think?

Seriously though , I wonder if it'll be a projectile like the Soldier's rocket. It would make Air-blast Pryo's a counter to this.

Do not know if want.
On one hand, no double jump :gonk:
On the other hand, the scout can be a supportive credit to team (disable any class.. think about that).

Today's news on the update is up, and it's highlighting two community maps (http://www.teamfortress.com/scoutupdate/watchtower_and_junction.htm) that are being officially added to TF2's map rotation.

also junction is fucking trash
actually steel is the only community map that hasn't been absolute garbage

In case you missed it earlier, a valid strategy on the current version of junction is to build a sentry behind one of your exit doors before setup ends on offense. When the door opens, your sentry will cover the entirety of one of the points you need to capture.

It saddens me that despite my best efforts to instruct and better you, some of you insist on finding new ways to fail.
We have sounded the alert and released a quick fix for an exploit that some unscrupulous players were using to wield items on invalid classes. Today's news on the update is up, and it's highlighting the new achievements and the Bonk energy drink (http://www.teamfortress.com/scoutupdate/energydrink.htm).
e: It also appears that, due to the background image, the new gametype will be a payload race where each team has their own cart.

Something tells me that BONK is going to be a major double-edged sword and only situationally useful, and probably not in the same fashion as the Sandvich. Namely, the disclaimer.
Note: Bonk! contains several hundred times the daily recommended allowance of sugar. After the beneficial effects of the radiation wear off, drinkers have reported experiencing feelings of lethargy that can last several seconds. Reading this sentence absolves Bonk! of any liability for killing sprees inspired by or deaths resulting from the ingestion of Bonk! Enjoy Bonk! responsibly… Or by the case!
I sense a stun time (in the same sense as the Sandman) after the speed boost wears off.
let's just hope there's a worthwhile weapon next.
Unlockable weapons for all classes haven't changed their core roles too much. Medics are still a support class, though their weapons do encourage them to assist in combat and increase their longevity in the field. Pyros were given weapons to further encourage ambushes and flanking. Heavies are still about tanking and defense. So far, the Scout is still about being lethal up close, an annoyance at a distance, and about doing some damage and getting the hell out before things go tits-up.

Well, it definitely won't be gradual damage, since the goal of the energy drink is to evade damage. I'm going with either a few seconds stunned, or just (hopefully) moving at a slower speed.

Which means I'll still be getting half the points I would be as any other class.
So far, Scout update is disappointing. I don't need to be faster. Especially if it's going to replace my pistol, or bat. And wtf, another shotgun.

The whole point of the Scout is to flank, deal damage, and run away before the enemy can retaliate, either going back for seconds when they're unaware, or letting your team handle it, as well as intelligence/point capture. You need twitch aim and quick wits to play the Scout effectively; if you're a twitch who can dodge around UT maps while pulling off flawless shock combos, bunnyhop around HL2DM maps while scoring headshot after headshot with the magnum, or if you just enjoy playing fast-paced games while being good at them, then you are a Scout. If you can't aim quickly and accurately or think fast, the Scout is not for you. If you find yourself unable to stay alive long or get many kills/points as a Scout, choose a different class.
None of the other updates have dramatically changed class purposes yet, why should the Scout get a major overhaul of core roles? If you can't play it, don't.

Pyros can still probably ignite a scout like this really easily, and then people can chase after him when the drink wears off.

Achievements had the specifications added to them very recently. Turns out the scattergun unlock is called "Force-A-Nature", and it can knock people around. There's probably going to be more to it, and I bet the update today will be on this weapon anyways.
No... it's another community map, Egypt. (http://www.teamfortress.com/scoutupdate/egypt.htm) That's a pretty boring map for me, but ah well. Fastlane is getting some changes it seems, and the Force-A-Nature got a mention.
features some really interesting uses of vertical space. Classes with the ability to ascend rapidly (Soldiers, Demomen, and Scouts using the new scattergun unlockable )

That's not really what I meant. I feel like I'm pretty good at Scout, my UT buddy also plays Scout and says that I'm pretty good. Scout is definitely my favorite class. It just feels like I can have a lot less practice/skill in other classes and get almost as many points.

Then you need to revise your playing style when you're using the Scout. If you're taking people head-on constantly, flank more. If you're getting swisscheesed by sentries all the time, turn up your volume and be more attentive for sentry beeps; if you hear some in an upcoming area, avoid it. Just keep in mind that the Scout is as tough as wet tissue paper; if your health is anywhere near half, you should be retreating.

Uh, yeah. For some reason my scout health has a tendency to magically disappear in 50% chunks when there's a heavy nearby. Not sure if that's related or not.

Well, I started doing that pretty recently, but haven't seen the fruits of my labor, mostly because I only played about 2 hours of TF2 in the past 2 months or so. I should play more.

heavys arnt that hard to take down.
a face crit scattergun takes down a full health heavy, as well as their vulnerable to flanking and from above.

Scouts have a tendency to die from 4~ sascha bullets, 2~ if they're crits.
Also, they die from 1 shot of the rocket or nade, and if they health is 60-70 they tend to die from the splash damage.
I was hoping there would be something to increase the scout's health by a bit this update.

Fuck, I saw a friend of mine (who's fairly new to tf2) take on a pyro and heavy, at the same time, with a bat and win.
They pyro and heavy player's were about as skilled as he was, he simply used cover and hit & run tactics.

Like I've been saying: playing the Scout is about using the Scout's speed to chip away at enemies while they're not paying attention, or for HP-weaker classes (sniper, for example), sneaking up behind them and putting a gigantic hole in them with the scattergun.

The new shotgun looks pretty cool. Makes the scout a bit more of a hit and run guy allowing him to do more damage faster and then retreat immediately.

And there was no last update. So basically 3 meh community maps and the scout weapons. Ok, but compared to the other updates, pretty lacking.

If you're a good Scout, then these achievements are mostly a breeze.
I, on the other hand, can't seem to make much headway on Pop Fly. I can barely aim at lightspeed while on the ground, much less while jumping around like a spaz.

I have 15 scout achievements, and I have a feeling I need 16 to get the sandman.
One more to go, although most of the ones left are the hard ones.

I think the only achievement I unlocked while playing "abnormally" was Triple Play; I was in a cp_badlands server that emptied out while I went idle, so I screwed around for a bit. Finally decided to cap all the points just for the hell of it got it, not realizing I would get it.
It just feels good when you try, try, and try and then finally get the achievements and unlocks. Especially for the ones that don't happen incidentally (i.e. A Year To Remember). It's even better when you unlock an achievement you weren't even trying for or didn't even know existed.
But that's just me. I know most fags online feel that they're entitled to the weapons and must have them at any cost. vOv

They said I could pwn nubs, then reload nice and slow, but does it reload slow? No, but it makes up for it by looking horrible, except the return to origin is nice I suppose.
