View Full Version : [CRYSIS] Mechwarrior: Living Legends *Warning Lots Of Images*
mech
February 18th, 2009, 10:19 AM
MechWarrior: Living Legends (MWLL) is a total conversion modification for Crysis. MWLL is at its very core a mix between a First Person Shooter (FPS) and a Simulation (SIM). This will be achieved through the use of a mixed arms massively multiplayer gaming experience where the player takes part in a battle using a variety of vehicles and weapons. MWLL is using the concepts pioneered by the “Battlefield” franchise and more recently Crysis, of a sandbox feel where you get to play what you want and how you want it. MWLL depicts the epic struggles between the two factions of Battletech “The Clans” and “The Inner Sphere”. Maps will typically have a mix of vehicles and infantry combat, using both of these to complete objectives as a team will be essential to winning rounds or campaigns in MWLL. In the project we will be bringing some of the legends of “MechWarrior” franchise back to life with new art and animations that do justice to these huge weapons of war and also do something that’s never be done before using the deep universe of Battletech. There are so many facets to Battletech and finally comes a title that is willing to explore them
Took out all of the pictures because everything that was previously shown has gone through a drastic overhaul.

In all seriousness Mech, I'm willing to help out with any/all beta tests that I'm around for. I'm signed up on the MW:LL forums as of today, but I've been lurking for awhile. Are there any chances that oldfags like me from the CE community can have a spot on the testing team when the beta rolls out? Also, this is ONLY going to be for Crysis right? Not Crysis: Warhead?
I can't figure out who you are on the MW:LL forums either.

This will be for both Crysis and Crysis Wars, we will more than likely be supporting the Crysis Wars version though.
Enjoy the screenshots, take note they're still WIP alot has changed since these shots were taken also.

If you actually played the games you'd realize that that's basically a Mech drop ship. All resemblances end there, the Separatist star ships are like 100x larger.

Maybe you should, because they're all cheaper than their real life counter parts... It's called gun prices in Canada -/- gun prices in the U.S. Get it right.

Welcome to the eighth overall and fourth weekly update for May of 2009, presented by the team of the Crysis total conversion modification MECHWARRIOR: LIVING LEGENDS.
Another week has passed and still the pace is high. In today's update we're bringing to you a 3D panorama view showing the interior of the Mech hangar and some more delicious playtest screenshots. If you liked the sound of this, you'll love what else we have: we've got confirmed beta content. No, it's not a release date, but it's a signal to you that release is not far out anymore. Last but not least, we've got awesome news from Crytek, too. Enjoy this update!
Experience The New Mech Hangar
In our Weekly Update V, the first in May, we presented to you the new Mech hangar. Today, we've got something very special: a 3D panorama experience of the construction bay level of the hangar. Download the file below and simply follow the instructions given in the included Readme.txt file.
http://www.mediafire.com/?zo2mzzmmmz4
Confirmed Beta Content: Solaris Arena Maps
Yes, we're finally getting close and while we are not yet ready to announce a release date, we're able to confirm certain content that will be available in the first official relase of MechWarrior: Living Legends. While we originally expected to have two, maybe three maps for the Solaris Arena game mode, we're now happy to announce that no less than five maps will be released straight away. These five maps can be seen on the screenshots below. If you're missing your favorite map here, don't despair: these maps are the ones closest to being done, but that doesn't mean the other maps will never see the light of day.

MWLL Presents: Crytek's Newest Employee
If you've just had a deja vu, rest assured: no, we're not short on news and recycling old announcements. The team of MechWarrior: Living Legends is indeed proud to again present to you Crytek's newest employee. While it hardly comes as a surprise to see another talented developer being offered a job opportunity in the games industry, the team is still proud to see another one from its ranks take the next step. While, like last time, Crytek's newest employee has the Tracy family name, this time, it is MWLL's Co-Lead and Creative Director Daniel "Kamikaze" Tracy who went all the way from Canada to Frankfurt, Germany, to work at Crytek.
Please join the team in wishing Kamikaze a great time and career at Crytek.
Playtest Impressions
Again, here are a few pictures from this week's playtest.

Is that an Owens in bay 7? Also, I'm assuming the clan's hangars won't have a Federated Suns ensign?
Edit: Nevermind...I forgot about that article on crymod from December. (Daishi replaced with Kodiak) :(

Why do ALL of the lights work in the hangar? When's the last time you walked into some kind of military storage/operations facility and saw ALL of the lights working? Make some unlit/broken and it'll have an even more realistic feel.

They don't ALL work...if you look at the fourth one from the front, in middle, it's much dimmer than the rest. :P In the panoramic view, it's facing the hangar doors, looking up at about 50 degrees.

Still works and isn't broken.
I'm talking shot out/burnt out bulbs and flickering effects on a couple every now and then.

Welcome to the ninth overall and first weekly update for June of 2009, presented by the team of the Crysis total conversion modification MECHWARRIOR: LIVING LEGENDS.
After last week's fairly huge update, this one is going to be a bit shorter. This time, we've got the textured Atlas, a short video demonstrating the time-of-day-settings on SA_Extremity and a new set of playtest impressions. Enjoy!
Textured Mech: Inner Sphere Atlas
It's only been a week since we presented to you the four variants of the Inner Sphere's iconic flagship, the Atlas assault Mech. Our artists turned out to be more productive than expected and finished the textures for the Atlas, which is why we're promoting this monster made of 100t of steel again this week. The following screenshot shows the Atlas' new clothes at different times during the day on SA_Clearcut.

Progress Report: SA_Extremity
One of the most unique maps in MWLL's set of confirmed beta release maps, SA_Extremity is making excellent progress in the past days and weeks. While we expected it not to support the impressive "Time of Day"-features that Crysis offers, our level designers still managed to come up with a pretty impressive solution. Check out the short video clip below to see how the skybox changes during the day. The screenshot is a still impression of some of the new assets and terrain that Inner Sphere and Clans will be fighting on. The music for this video has yet again been created for MWLL by Mike Jennings from Sunpost Music.

Welcome to June's fourth and the twelfth overall weekly update by the team of the Crysis total conversion modification MECHWARRIOR: LIVING LEGENDS.
June has come to an end and wow, it's been a super-busy and productive week. Huge steps in terms of polishing and stabilising have been taken and we're proud to present to you one of the most extensive weekly updates we've had so far. We'll start out with the textured four variants of the Inner Sphere's Mauler and continue with various impressions from SA_Sandblasted. Again, a number of playtest impressions will conclude this update. We recommend to check them out carefully, because there are yet again exciting things to see: yes, it'll be possible to take certain vehicles under water and even fight there.

Four Variants With Textures: Inner Sphere Mauler
Early in April, we introduced to you this Inner Sphere's assault Mech. Finally, it has received its textures which we are proud to present to you today. For size comparison reasons, there's a Longinus in the screenshot and for reasons of completeness, the variants have been explained again.

Progress Report: SA_Sandblasted
One of the team's most recent additions, Rolke, is more and more turning out to be an invaluable asset when it comes to level art: many of the assets you'll see when playing SA_Sandblasted have been created or at least modified by him, who originally joined as a level designer but has proven his value as an environmental artist. Check out some of the most recent changes to MWLL's desert map on the screenshot and panoramas below. http://mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/thumb_sa_sandblasted_wu12_02.jpg (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-435) http://mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/thumb_sa_sandblasted_wu12_04.jpg (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-434) http://mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/thumb_sa_sandblasted_wu12_05.jpg (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-433)

Welcome to this issue of the Weekly Update by MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification. The delayed release and huge content make this update issue thirteen and fourteen, covering the first two weeks in July.
July is a already a few days old and development is still going at a steady and pretty high pace. This week, we've got something for you that has been demanded for quite some time: actual gameplay footage. The trailer, named "Walking With Giants"s, brings to you three and a half minutes of unedited, unscripted actual gameplay straight from the team's weekly playtests.

Welcome to the 15th Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the third week of July of 2009.
First, the team would like to thank everyone for the huge amount of attention that our trailer "Walking With Giants" from Weekly Update XIV received. Now, for this week's update, we're taking a look at the progress of SA_Extremity and you'll get to see the new jumpjet particle effects for battlearmor. As always, a couple of playtest impressions conclude this update.
Progress: SA_Extremity
As has been shown in our latest trailer, Extremity has received quite some care. One of the results is this lake near the middle of the map. One time, it'll be frozen over and passable while at other times, it'll be all water depending on the time of day.

New particle effects: Battlearmor jump jets
Just recently completed and already implemented: the new particle effects on battlearmor jumpjets were received quite positively during the last playtest.

Welcome to the 16th Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the third week of July of 2009.
This week's update introduces new particle effects for Mech core explosions - if you thought our former ones were huge, wait till you see the new ones - as well as a first glimpse at the new cockpits that are currently being worked on. As always, we're concluding this update with a few playtest impressions
Mech cockpits - Work In Progress
Just recently, a new member joined the MWLL Developer team: Gibbage, who will be working on the cockpits. Some of the results of this work are shown below: a couple of WIP shots of an Inner Sphere cockpit.

New particle effects: Mech core explosions
Exploding Mech core are supposed to be monumental and impressive, which is why they're under permanent observation and examination. The result of this process is yet another updated set of particle effects. Check them out below!

You guys smooth out those running animations? Would also be cool to see the reaction of the feet contacting ground in the weapons/arms of the mech. That or seeing the upper torso jolt about.
Small things that would make this already fine looking mod look more polished.

Welcome to the 18th Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the first week of August of 2009.
This week's update features the four variants of the Inner Sphere's Gunship Hawk Moth, the new base layout on SA_Inferno and of course another set of playtest impressions
Four Variants: IS Hawk Moth
25 tons don't sound like much for a Mech or tank, but they certainly are for a VTOL, in particular when it packs as much firepower as the Inner Sphere's Hawk Moth. All of the four variants feature missiles in one shape or another, but the additional weapons range from small beam lasers to an ER PPC or LBX10.

New base design: SA_Inferno
-OM-Sanyassi spent quite some time on making the bases on SA_Inferno appear more realistic and actually 'populated' with the help of our environmental artists. The results of these efforts can be seen in the screenshots below.

Welcome to the 19th Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the second week of August of 2009.
This week's update features the a lot of texture work on the Clans' Mad Cat/Timberwolf and Vulture/Mad Dog Mechs as well as the fully textured and implemented cockpit for the Inner Sphere's Owens.
Textures done: Weapons, Mad Cat & Vulture
A lot of texture work has been done these recent weeks and some of the results are shown in the screenshot below: the Gauss rifle is no longer a black box and two very popular and iconic Clan Mechs have received their new outfits: Mad Cat/Timberwolf and Vulture/Mad Dog hail in their new shiny glory.
http://mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/normal_textured_vulturemadcat_triplet.jpg (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-487)
Cockpit done: Inner Sphere's Owens
Not long ago we presented to you the WIP shots of the work that's being done on Owens' cockpit and while talented 3D artist Gibbage already has moved on to another cockpit, we'd like to present to you the fully textured and implemented controls and instruments. Please note though: at this time, this is decoration and not the actual HUD.

I really think you guys should have done something more interesting with the cockpits. They're sorely lacking in creativity. You can make the player feel so much more involved and drawn in with a better cockpit design. Get some inspiration from sci-fi movies, real cockpits, something. Set up an image board of what inspires you and work off of that.

Welcome to the 21st Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the fourth week of August of 2009.
This week's update features texture work on some of the Inner Sphere's war machinery: the popular Bushwacker can't wait to show its shiny new clothes to all of you! In addition, we'll take a closer look at some of the bases on SA_Inferno.
http://mechlivinglegends.net/images/stories/mwll_weeklyupdate21_header01.jpg
Textures done: Bushwacker
After several weeks with updates on Clan war machinery, here is yet another representative for the Inner Sphere - the popular medium class Bushwacker has received its textures as you can see on the screenshot below.

SA_Inferno: More details on the bases
As explained and demonstrated in the most recent updates, we've put quite some thought to how our maps and in particular the bases could be filled with more life. The bases on SA_Inferno are still receiving a lot of care and detail work and the screenshots below show some of that. http://mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/thumb_sainferno_bases_wu21-01.jpg (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-502) http://mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/thumb_sainferno_bases_wu21-02.jpg (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-501)

Welcome to the 22nd Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the first week of September of 2009.
This week's update will be very brief and small. A major part of the attention is currently being directed to tuning, optimising, bugfixing... which simply can't be shown in pictures. The main content of this week's update features a comparison of how two locations in our maps evolved
Before and after: level locations
The two screenshots below compare two locations on SA_Inferno as well as SA_Sandblasted the way they were presented to you months ago in the advent calendar with what they look like today. We hope you like the progress and the way things went as much as we did when we compared the shots.

Just found out our reflections work on the water on our level Marshes, it's best generated using ocean water. But, if you do so other wise you have to set the water's update quickly( milliseconds) or the image will update very slowly in the reflection.
During a playtest today I was able to see nuke explosions reflecting off of the water.

It's a hud effect, it's identical to getting shot and blood being on your screen; only it's water.
Yes I understood that. But is it on the glass?
mech

Well if it's the Hud, then no, it's not on the glass.

It's going to be an open beta, hopefully released before the end of the month.
Once the beta is released be sure to post any bugs/glitches etc on www.mechlivinglegends.net (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net) . They should make a beta bugs forum when the mod is released.

You've given me a perfectly reasonable excuse to go out and burn 700$ on a new computer mech, why would you do such a thing.

Finally the installation instructions. Please DO NOT FORGET TO REPLACE ACTIONMAPS.xml with the example provided in the download.
Installation
Requirements
Crysis installed and patched to 1.21
Directions
Upon downloading the mod you should have an archived directory.
This directory should be extracted to your Crysis install Directory which usually looks like “C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis”
Replacing Action-Maps
In order to get yourself up to date with the latest key commands to access all the functionality you want, you will have to grab them from the latest XML file provided in the MWLL BETA v.1.0 archive entitled.
1) Beta Testers - after installation, copy the file "example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml" (EVEN IF YOU DONT USE JOYSTICK)
2) Paste this file to your Crysis profile found in - My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles
3) You will have to paste to both profiles (if you have another one besides the default Crysis)
ensure you do this in both the default and YOUR PROFILE directory
My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\default\actionmaps.xml
My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\Criminal\actionmaps.xml
4) Finally delete your old "actionmaps.xml" and rename the copied "example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml" to "actionmaps.xml"
Launching the game
You may launch the game using the MWLL Laucher
MWLL Launcher.exe is contained in Crysis\Mods\mwll folder
Alternatively you can add a –mod mwll in the target of a shortcut to the crysis executables. It will look like this “"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -mod mwll”

I can't play on version 1.2.1 because every time I tick a box, change a setting, or adjust ANYTHING, the game crashes. I've tried all the fixes I can find online but it just doesn't work, so I'm stuck on version 1.2 unfortunately...
mech
December 27th, 2009, 10:41 AM
Something is severely fucked with 1.21, it's been crashing lots of people. However, if you edit your video settings in C:\Documents\MyGames\Crysis\game.cfg
Edit the settings in notepad++ or notepad
