Playing it right now.
It's a good game so far. The main character is an asswipe, though. I suppose he's a gang member, so it makes sense that he would act like one.
The story runs parallel to Niko's, you actually team up with him on one mission I remember particularly well. He makes cameos from time to time, but all in all, I liked playing as Niko more. A lot of the things which happened in the expansion pack explain things that happen in Niko's story.
But I noticed they made a lot of changes, as well:

Bikes no longer handle like shit, I prefer them to cars now, actually.
New weapons, such as the grenade launcher or sawed-off shotgun
About 10 hours of new campaign and 25 pigeons to kill.
New bikes.
Police seem to be smarter and slightly easier to piss off.
A stupid "Grain Filter" which makes everything look gritty, supposedly because it fits the biker's mood. It can be turned off, thankfully.
The meter to judge how much your friends like you has been taken out and replaced by a "Combat Readiness" meter for your teammates. If you hang out with your biker teammates, they become tougher and more effective in battle. This also increases when they get in skirmishes with you.
New multiplayer modes.
Liberty City is unlocked from the start, no annoying 6-star wanted level chases.

None of these transfer over to Niko's story, sadly.

All in all, it was worth the $20 I forked over for it. It plays out a lot like a filler GTA game, like San Andreas or Vice City did, and I can foresee Rockstar releasing all of its "filler" content as DLC for GTA IV until GTA V comes out.

Wait, so you actually play as a new character? Jeez, I thought it was just you play as Niko.

So all the new stuff like better bike handling and new guns wont work if you play a Niko character save?

I just got my GTA working again, used a mates disk to install to hard drive. If Xbox.com accepted debt cards I'd be all over buying it but they dont :(

Debit? You just use them as if they were credit.

Debit? You just use them as if they were credit. That only applies if you're American.

In Canada we have separate Debit and Credit cards.

I'm probably going to be playing this a lot more than the normal GTAIV. One sad thing about Free Mode, is that they removed the Annihilator. Probably because it fires explosive projectiles that detonate on impact. (Destroys cars in one or two hits.) However, you CAN use GTAIV's original cheats on TLAD, and spawn one in single player. And TLAD also comes with a few of its own cheats, just for spawning a few bikes and vehicles though. The cheats don't disable achievements, but I dont think you can get original achievements in TLAD anyway, though, when I was flying a chopper over the river, I went under a bridge and it said "Only 13 bridges to fly under", But I flew under about 10 in the original game. Oh by the way, if you haven't beaten it yet, don't stop. There is this one chase where you escape the police that's just, well, just see for yourself. It's past half-way though the game, I think. Easily my favorite mission of the game.

I use a debit card, well actually its a visa electron debit card and it works fine on xbox, use it to buy Microsoft Points all the time.

However, i will not be buying this, as i know longer have GTA4 nor do i really wish to play it... But pricing is still a little to high i think anyway.

I still haven't bothered to beat the regular GTA4. Game was a yawn fest.

I really liked GTA4. Quite a lot of attention to detail was spent.

BTW... the Phone's "Sleep Mode" should have been there all along... though admittedly it's possible I just didn't see it until now.

San Andreas was a yawn fest if anything else. Missions were ridiculously hard and irrelevant.

Hmm, I have a HSBC Solo Maestro Debit card. Your visa one is a little different.

Uh, Sleep mode has been there since original GTA 4 release.

I loved GTA 4, to me it seemed too short, I finished it in a flash, all I have to do is get pigeons and jumps and I'm 100%, did most of them then lost count of ones I did =\.

At least it had better cheats and vehicles.

I'm 400 points short of being able to buy this, without using my moms credit card, which im not going to do.

The only thing I really, REALLY mourn about in GTA IV was the loss of the Tank. Oh, and any kind of planes, bad physics or not.
No, Helicopters don't count, because I can't fucking fly them too well.

San Andreas - pilot license missions. FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU >=(

Also, this looks way too promising.

RPG elements were annoying, hated doing button mashing grind quests to improve my stats :|

It's been there all along.

Believe me, just like in real life, the first thing I did with the cell phone when I got it was fiddle with it and dink with all of its settings.

At least they were epic on a regular basis. The only missions that interested me in GTA 4 were the bank heist and the tanker. Everything else was boring as all motherfuck and repetitive.

Shadow this person... mission passed!

Kill this dipshit... mission passed!

Race to the finish... mission passed!

After the Badlands missions, everything after that was unreasonably difficult and you had to land a plane at this one particular spot and not 5 feet away. >=( Fucking red rings that you always need to stay in.

True, there were a number of them that were hard, though most of them were side missions, thank god (like Zero's missions).

Though I spent most of my time actually trying to do extra stuff, so I had good practice. The missions I had the most trouble on iirc were Zero's missions where you kill the delivery guys, and the one with the fallapart plane where you had to stay low or else you'd get shot down. I am not good aviator :(

Well, I finally beat the campaign and found both random encounters (there's only 2, sadly.) Still have to kill the 25 flying rats they added in.
I must say, I found quite a few more epic missions in The Lost and Damned than I did in GTA IV, even though TLAD only has 1/3 of GTA's missions.
The ones which I remember very well are:

Becoming a terrorist for Congressman Stubbs and blowing up a helicopter.
Rescuing Elizabeta's Spanish-speaking friend (who Johnny doesn't realize is lesbian).
Escaping from the cops with an :awesome: kill-everything-automatic-shotgun while riding on the back of a bike.
"Collector's Item", the GTA mission "Museum Piece" (where you have to sell Ray's diamonds in the museum and everyone starts firing at you), except from Johnny's perspective.
When Ashley gets in trouble with some Russians, so you have to kidnap Roman for them! I remember dying so many times on the mission where I had to rescue Roman in GTA IV... *Shakesfists* Mostly due to the end, where I have a limited amount of time to shoot that guy in the head.
The very last mission, where you have to break into a prison and kill Billy. The shootouts in that mission felt more like a firefight in Call of Duty 4 than something from Grand Theft Auto IV, and that's a good thing.

Don't even get me started on that one, Rockstar can't make good piloting controls even to save their own lives. :(

Is it me or are all the car brakes shit in these games? Also GTA IV multiplayer is epic. I'm DEFINITELY buying this when I get the chance.

English Mobster
March 1st, 2009, 04:29 PM
The brakes depend on how fast you're moving. ;P
If you're moving at the same speed as everyone else (unlikely), you should have no issues. But if you're running from the cops at 80 MPH (Much more likely), its much more likely that your brakes would fail...

Naw, they're realistic.

...so wait, yeah they are shit. :v:
