What's more awesome is that "Serenity" has the majority of votes so far.

You do know that "vista" is Italian for "a view," right? And that the word is used in English to describe a place from which one can see very far?
It would be fitting since a space station would be quite the vista.

I doubt it. /b/ got Rick Astley the "best act ever" award, so it wouldn't surprise me if the space ship ended up to be called "battletoads."

Funny, they don't show you the results until after you vote, unless you've voted more than once.
I sent in my own suggestion: Delphi

I don't think any effort by /b/ will get through, anyway:
NASA will take into consideration the results of the voting. However, the results are not binding on NASA and NASA reserves the right to ultimately select a name in accordance with the best interests of the agency, its needs, and other considerations. Such name may not necessarily be one which is on the list of voted-on candidate names. NASA’s decision shall be deemed final.

Serenity is a pretty good name. Now it just needs a ragtag team of space venturing rebels who cause as many problems as they solve. But then it will get cancelled in its prime by FOX because few people understand the converging of sci fi and western genres. *sigh*

NAY! Cowboy Bebop's characters are bounty hunters while Firefly's characters are law dodging rebels who take some crime work on the side!

I did :bandwagon:. I actually don't think it's the best name, but it makes me smile to think that the fans have come out overwhelmingly in favor of naming an ISS node after my favorite fictional spacecraft of all time. Of course, it would have been more apt if in a couple of years they let us name the first Orion module Serenity.
Also, dammit, my Firefly box set is calling my name, but it's crunch time on Greeble! I shouldn't even be wasting time in this thread. :<

If I were Colbert, I would be happy with that. I mean I would rather have a treadmill, a device which Astronauts need so that they don't collapse when they come back into our gravity, named after me then a Urine Recycling Node, which turns piss into water.

On a quite different note, I always wonderd if Colbert is actually serious about the things that he says. Since I'm Italian and admittedly quite retarded when it comes to spotting irony, I do have a hard time figuring out if he's actually as radical as he makes himself out to be, the audience cheering at parts that would support my doubts [exaggerated zealous patriotism (?), mind the questionmark] and actual troops endorsing him doesn't really help. Sure, he may really just exaggerate events and statements to expose some of their underlying meaning [just like he disrupts his guests to probe the validity of their points] but I just can't shake that feeling that beyond the laughters, americans actually take him and his mindset seriously.
Maybe it's my limited insight into the american perception of politics and culture, but I would prefer The Daily Show over the Report anyday. I'd rather have cornyness than ambigiuity.
Then again it's both retarded entertainment and really just the other side of the coin of mass media.

He's parodying Fox News's level of reporting-- He's actually a very different person offstage. (It's all an act)
