We'll have to see I guess... It doesn't seem like they were very convincing, but I certainly hope that Microsoft is taking action, better late than never.

Mine is still kicking...
...I've only had it for 2 months.

Mine is still kicking...it's a 2009 Arcade system with the Jasper mobo (65nm CPU + 65nm GPU) and using the hard drive from my old 2006 one which is sitting at MS for repairs (RROD, what else). I can't say whether or not the switch to Jasper really means no RROD, but I can definitely say it produces a lot less heat and noise than my old one, plus it really draws less power than the old one (150W as opposed to 175).
I also saved quite a bit buying it in January...last summer due to the good exchange rate the Canadian price of any console dropped to exactly the same as the American price (it used to be $50 more)...and now even though the exchange rate has worsened, the number is still the same! So my $199.99 Can Arcade was actually cheaper than its $199.99 USD brother.
The video that was posted didn't say anything useful...I expected that MS had announced some "perfect solution" or what. I'm fairly sure that the "better technology" statement refers to Jasper mobos though.

Well, I know why mine has the 3 rings of death.
Note: totally did not drop off the top of my bunk and crack the motherboard and then called microsoft and then they said I broke the warranty

You never tell them what happened... duh, that's warranty 101. You just have to say it doesn't work.
Did it with my Zune, I left out the part where I shocked it. Just said it didn't turn on.
Edit: Oh shi- I'm really close to 1000 posts.

Just said it didn't turn on.
You'd be surprised at how often that actually works... I fried a motherboard once because I was to naive to check the RAM type and installed DDR2 into a DDR slot (they fit, just require a bit of force, figured it was just the modules being finicky)... RMA'd the motherboard saying that I installed some new RAM and it just stopped working, they asked if I installed the correct RAM type and I just said yes...
I'm actually surprised by the fact that I've had a few customers come into my store and ask me specifically for Jasper consoles... Most people don't even know the code names, or how they effect the performance.

So, I had my 360 since it was released. Never RRoD'd.
Then I sold it to my friend, and he threw it at the floor and kicked his foot into it.

I've had mine since 16 September 2007, Halo 3 Edition, and it still works fine. I guess 360s are just hit or miss.
Also, leave it to California to file a lawsuit on something like this...

I've had mine since christmas 06, never RRoD'd, but the disc drive stopped working and ruined my first halo 3 disk.

Mine has 0 rings of death.
I don't have one =D
Though I do know someone who got 2 rings, then 3 after attaching a fan =/

Nyko Intercooler that plugs directly into the power cable port and then the power cable plugs into it?
He probably plugged in the intercooler but forgot to turn it on (it doesn't automatically power on when the 360 is booted up). That thing does work but if it's turned off while plugged in it can really FUBAR the 360 because it blocks the heat from escaping out the vents and could actually melt and adhere to the power cable port, voiding the warranty. I think IGN confirmed this.
Well, I've got my 65nm GPU at last, so no RROD worries...I hope. Now I just need a bigger hard drive so I can install more games onto it...a dual layer DVD holds 8.5 GB, so a 20 GB hard drive runs out very quickly with this feature.
You should save up for one, the X360 Arcade is a steal at $199.99, and with 256 MB flash included you don't need to worry about having to buy a memory device separately (of course, you can't install games onto the flash to reduce load times, but at least you can save your game without having to buy add-ons). Gears of War 2 is the 1337 stuff, and it's not coming to PC afaik.

I have like rev 1 and my box is still going strong. I'm really glad I never had to deal with the RMA process though - my roommate's died and the only reason he wasn't SOL was because he could use mine for 2+ weeks.
Nonetheless, you fix one problem and another comes up. No console will ever be without faults. I hope Microsoft has learned something from this RRoD crisis, though.

Cool, Costco isn't being cooperative about the return.
3 year warranty? Naa, who needs to actually stay true to their claims?
Looks like it gets to go through MS if they don't let up. I'm not going to give in to Costco's bullshit yet though.
Fuck my life.
