Ok, so today I was at school and all my Sib's were out. My parents though are old so they stayed at home. What happen was that someone came and knocked on the door. They said they were from Rogers *Our Internet provider in Canada* and said that he had to check our modem and so on and that. My parents are old as I stated so thought maybe we phoned to check with rogers or something. The odd part is he took out a laptop and he took out wires and put in wires and blah blah blah, and then he went in the basement, checked this Internet wire and left. My sis came home and seen him before he left. My parents and sis says he is around 60-70 years in age.

Here is what is weired. We NEVER phoned or asked for anything from Rogers. So we called rogers and they said they dont ever come to anyone's home with out an appointment and a really good reason due to the fact that it costs Rogers money to send someone out. So then we asked Rogers if there is a guy named "ted" in there company cause that's what this worker claimed to be named. They said no one by the name even works in Rogers. So we called the cops and they said they will look into this and call us back later. This was near the morning, its already night time and they haven't called back....

So my wonder is, what can he have done to our router or modem?

We bought a 200$ router again, and changed all passwords in the router thing. We were advised to change all passwords on sites and credit cards. So my question really is, who could have this been and what could have done the Internet or yea... Any advice or thoughts? D:

Replace EVERYTHING. Back-up files on your PC and wipe them, replace your Routers AND Modems, replace the cable, etc. He probably put something in there to send him information on what you are doing on your PC.

Go ahead and change every password you have and check to see if there is any equipment that you do not remember installing in any of your computers. He could very well have installed a hardware keylogger/information tracking device of some sort somewhere in the house, either on the network itself or connected to one of the computers.

Keep a close eye on network activity to see if there is anything odd. Hell, keep a close eye on EVERYTHING for now. Be paranoid.

My family is doing that job for me. We have 5 comps connected on this one router, thats whats im alittle worried. Mostly because of University passwords and creditcard numbers...

Thats why I was asking what he could have done to it. D:

The worst he could have done now is everything. If anything is suspicious, report it immediately to the Police. If the Police don't do anything, report it to a higher Authority. I don't know if Canada has an FBI.

My brother talked to the sheriff in this city. Heh, they never called back yet even now. Also we have something called RCMP not FBI. :)

Rogers said they cant do anything because they dont really know what happen. :|

No sarcasm. My ENTIRE post was all serious business.

This guy has some kind of tracker on some part of your electronics system. While you are going to have to replace your router, modem, and cables, you should also not only wipe your PC's HDD, but you should also have a technician look at your PC's hardware to make sure nothing was tampered with.

Also make sure you pay extra attention to all of your finances/accounts/cards for the next few weeks incase he already got some information from your system.

Uh, Me and my brothers custom built all of our computers. So no need for a tech person.. umm.. he didn't touch the computers?

And, I cant change the modem, because it belongs to the company. Even though we payed for it... heh. :|

EDIT: wth does the wires have to do with anything? D:

You said he "checked" an Ethernet cord. I'm guessing he did more then check it.

Ask the company for a replacement.

I'm afraid you can't just rig a cord to track someone's information.

Maybe he tried to get access through your router and login from a remote location?
