View Full Version : What book should I get...

So, I have a book report or some shit that I have to do for Language Arts, and I don't know what book to read for it.

It needs to be fiction, and no less than 150 pages. Can't be made into a movie already. Oh yeah, and school appropriate...

So far I read the first Halo book, titled "Halo: Fall of Reach". It was interesting, but since i'm not too into reading it got boring, until it gripped me in.

So, should I continue the saga of the cheef, or snatch some other book? You decide. All books are welcome, as long as they are fiction, not gay, and school appropriate.

One of those movie-tie-in novels mb?

Well, I forgot to add that it can't be made into a movie already :/ If you mean tied in as in "it's not a movie, but it relates to one". Than i'm all ears for ideas.

You actually go for school appropriate? My list of book reports over the last few years:
- The Alphabet of Manliness
- Real Ultimate Power: the Official Ninja Book
- Brain Droppings
- When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops

Hope it helps somewhat. Don't be afraid to go off about censorship if there are any complaints. This works best for Maddox's book, I dunno how it will work or the other three. I guess if you're limited to fiction, it's just the first two, but hopefully the other two will find their way in.

Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz (except the first one which had a movie).

1984 is right out, I guess. :(

Less than 150 pages? Sorry, guess I can't really help you much.

It's no less than 150 pages, not less than. lol

And I hated 1984, we read it last year for language, it was a required reading.

Never heard of the series, I might look into it. Thanks for the option.

Man, those names made me lol. Are those actual books or just report names? If thay're books I might have to get one, or all of them. Thanks for the ideas.

Read "The Road". Loved it. Has a dark tone to it but can get quiet boring at times but the symbolism and meaning you can get out of it are awesome.

I'm reading 1984 for class right now, the plot is interesting but the assignments are hell.

Much Ado About Nothing. If you can stand Shakespeare, that is.

I was gonna suggest a Mathew Reilly book, but I'm not sure how school appropriate that is. It just has a lot of cursing, but you wouldn't involve that in your report so it shouldn't matter. I've done ever book report I've had this year on one of his books, and I've read about 5 of them this school year. Just finished one today in fact. I suggest "Temple" or "Contest". Those are his best imo.

Yeah, I remember that. It was better when that book was done.

Na, Shakespeare isn't my type of reading material.

Alright, another good suggestion. Cursing is probably fine, since we're reading Of Mice And Men right now and there's a ton of cursing in it.

Read The Odyssey

Read an abridged version of The Odyssey

fixed. I read the full thing by Homer in 10th grade. Well those were back in the good old days of regular classes so the assignments were easy, but it wasn't fun.

Animal Farm is one of the few class novels that I totally enjoyed (including the assignments). I highly recommend it :D

I think we're supposed to read that next year, so I don't know for sure if I can use it now.

Also, I'm pretty sure I read a watered down version of The Odyssey. So that's a pass as far as i'm concerned.

Once an Eagle by Anton Myrer. Great book, though it is kind of long at roughly 1200 pages. Best part is the first half, I thought, though all of it is good. It's a war story, following a fictional man by the name of Sam Danon and his life-long protagonist (and superior officer) Courtney Massengale.

He said at least 120 pages, not 1200 pages :gonk:

Actually I said 150, not 120. I'd never have the attention span to read 1200 pages.

Well, the first 600 or so pages are awesome. You can divy the book up into definite sections.

Hatchet. That's like an easy book to read, with an interesting story. I probably read it like 50 times in my school life

I've already read it like over 9000 times, and it wasn't that great. The storyline went on for too long and it got very boring.
