Got accepted to college. Don't care as much about school anymore.

I've played Halo 3 to the end. After I played Grifball for DoubleXP weekend, a very fun game type in my opinion, I can't really go back to playlists where there are semi-mlg guys and I'm just a casual gamer (social multi team among others).

I played UT3 and decided that it is nothing special. Really dry gameplay, but I'll use its powerful engine to create mods (so far, I've seen nothing special out of the mod scene either, which disappoints me).

I bought and played Crysis. My machine can run it at 30 FPS at ultra, so performance wasn't the problem. The game's controls are very jerky, the movements in game are very jerky, and, overall, seems to be designed without any game flow. Maybe I'm describing the problem in a bad way, so I apologize. Crysis didn't do it for me.

I tried L4D. I wasn't too impressed. I mean, I can get semi-into it, but maybe it is the mutliplayer aspect that makes it; I don't have many friends who have that kind of time.

Team Fortress 2... I know people here like it, so I won't bash it too much. I will say, after 1 game, I hated it. Nothing seemed consistent, and I don't have time for games in general, but when the game seems boring and the learning curve is logarithmic, I abandon it.

Fallout 3... decent. But still too much shit to go through to get any real enjoyment out of it.

Gunz the Duel (and games like it). Again, like Halo, you add skill to something (granted Gunz actually has the appropriate death/kill ratio) it makes people douches for some reason. Otherwise, the game is pretty static.

Bioshock I may have enjoyed more if I realized what the art style was. It was a really foreign concept. Not knowing what it was aiming for made it look like a really sloppy remake of the 1950s.

So, I guess what I'm asking is for a game which has an involved storyline, non-static/jerky gameplay, intuitive in both UI and controls, not cliched. I don't want Final Fantasy stuff either (I've played some, not much kind of thing).

Good games IMO:

-Deus Ex
-Mafia
-CoD4
-One of the really old Xbox MoH games
-Max Payne
-Quake II

I've seen people un-accepted from colleges by blowing off their final semester. Colleges look at your final transcript, and still hold the right to reject you after you have been accepted.

Continue to care about school. It is still important.

Let me rephrase it then (and then we shall get back on topic shall we?)

I Continue to care about school. It is still very important to me because the classes I take I may be able to use to drop out of others in college. I love Calculus, Physics, and Economics and Programming. That is what I am taking.

What I mean about caring less, well, those values are relative to the person. I don't mean the shift of A-F more of a B-low B~high C.

Fable's fun. COD:Waw IMO is better than 4. Halo does get boring fast. You like racing games? Grid is an amazing racing simulator. Grand Theft Auto will last you a little bit, but again, it gets boring after awhile.

lol wait, so by your standards, UT3 is dry, but quake 2 is good? oh god.
unless im thinking of a different quake (n64 ones)
from what iv seen, the quake series in general is all rocket launchers. even the ai whore the rockets. at least the ai in the ut series can whore weapons appropriately
E: ok goddamnit. i had a huge thing typed up, then it logged me out, then when i went to paste it, i pressed ctrl+c instead of ctrl+v. lets try again:
its hard to gauge something you would like, because you complain that any game that requires skill attracts the douche bags, yet you list cod4 as a game you like to play.
if you want a game that will last you a long time, get morrowind or oblivion for the pc so you can install mods
if you want an easy game to pick up and play, try pikmin on the gamecube or marathon
if you want an involved game, try the zelda series. one of the OLD ones, like link to the past or ocarina of time. you could also give the mana series a shot. its like final fantasy but without turn based combat... mix zelda a link to the past with final fantasy 5 and you have secret of mana. and it is awesome. im not going to try to convert you to RPGism, but i used to think the final fantasy series, and anything else by square, was "teh gey", then i actually PLAYED ff6, and fell in love with the series.

Puzzle game series called Myst. I have all of them except Myst V End of Ages, loved them. You may appreciate the puzzles that define the Myst series.

Wat.

Halo is amazing, and World of War is a crapped out version of the 4th one, I mean come one it isn't even Tyerachrs engine, nor did they make the franchise be successful

CoD4 > CoD5.

The CoD5 is a horrible attempt at a WWII version of 300. The story is just TOO over the top. The multiplayer maps in CoD5 are uninteresting and bland. And the Zombie mode, while fun at first, gets old very fast.

CoD4 has a deep and beleiveble story, it has interesting maps that are balanced, and it does not have to use cheap gimmicks to get someones interest.

Grab Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault for the PC if you want a good Pacific Theater WWII game.

beleiveble story

lol

But yeah COD4 is great, good that you're still playing it. Halo is overrated imho.

Also, if you have a ps3 or your good friend has one, Metal Gear Solid 4 is really epic. Ok I disagree with the 10.0 it got from gamespot but it's definitely the best of the series.

I must ask, what class(es) did you play as? Did you go into it with any prior knowledge of how to play (i.e. watching how-to videos for each class, like EvilDaedalus's videos for the Scout, Pyro, Engineer)? I will admit, critical hits and damage do add inconsistency, and sometimes I don't like how I can't tell how much damage I dealt shotgunning people at medium range.

TF2 is bloody easy in most cases, you just gotta find the class that suits your personality and playstyle, try to play one map at a time (play it for a while, then move on when you feel like it) and regardless of class, spycheck, spycheck, SPYCHECK. The game throws lots of tips at you on loading screens and while you wait to respawn, and of course, there's tf2wiki.net.

I've noticed games fail to really catch my interest until I've played them to the point where I understand the mechanics and have skill in the game. I'd reccomend picking up those games you already have and trying them for a bit longer-- they are all very highly rated, for different reasons, and I'm certain at least one will catch your attention.

Also, make sure you fiddle with the mouse sensitivities on these games constantly-- you might need to change in different ways per game, to suit what type of game it is. For me, the faster the sensitivity, the closer the action I deal with. UT3 demands a high sensitivity, especially in deathmatches. Halo demands a medium one (But it only goes up to medium-slow :argh: ), and TF2... I'm not sure. I play pretty much every class a bunch and have a hard time aiming, considering I have to aim at mid-to low-to high ranges constantly. It's still one of my favorite multiplayer games.

Also, try different gametypes in UT3. It's a very versatile game, and varies greatly in speed depending on the gametype.

I've found Thief 2 and Jetfighter 2015 to be quite fun, but imo, Jetfighter is best with a proper joystick, like the Wingman Extreme :)

I'd seriously tryout an MMO. Believe me, I think it's ridiculous that I should pay money to play a game, but World of Warcraft is a fantastically designed game. There's always a huge user base and most people are pretty decent.

You need to have buddies in that game to play with. I couldn't convince anybody I knew and the people I knew were already gone doing level 60+ quests and arenas (I was at 40).

It was nice while it lasted.

If you want a slower-paced more tactical game, try farcry 2. If you want something a little faster, try gears 2. both games have flowy, comfortable controls. A lot of people have trouble adjusting to gears controls, but once you get the hang of it, it feels natural.

Heh, yeah. I got into my top school with a scholarship, so I'm as done as you are.

Have you tried L4D? Alongside WoW, that's taken plenty of my time lately.

excuse me while I bombard you with my mildly pretentious penchant for semi-obscure and/or old games

-Emperor : Battle for Dune. It's essentially a generic C&C game, but IMO its execution is vastly superior to anything that EA has forced out since Westwood was completely annihilated. The campaign is incredibly open (you literally get to chose almost every mission from a map of Arrakis) and the inclusion of the Dune universe doesn't hurt either.

-Mechwarrior 3/4 + the expansions. If you don't mind the rather complex control scheme that comes with Mech sims, they're amazingly fun. The sheer level of customization that comes from the Mechlabs makes the time in between missions almost as fun as the game itself.

-If you're looking for more instantly gratifying POWPOW gameplay, I have to reccomend that you get your hands on Descent (preferably the first one). You'll need a DOS emulator to make it at all playable (sup 1994) but it's an absolute gem. The second and third installments in the series are alright as well, (and the second is certainly worth looking into) but the first was the best IMO.

-Freespace 2. Pretty much the last great space combat shooter, except it was made open-source and is constantly getting graphical upgrades. It's also dirt cheap. www.hard-light.net is the main fansite, pretty much everything is there. If you need further convincing, may I refer you to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6VhyMzu12c (Jesus, I must have posted that 5 times on this site by now).

-Warcraft 3. Fuck this MMO shit, it's an amazing game. If you have any interest in RTS at all you need to play it.

-Touhou (Specifically #6, 7, and 8). 2D vertical shooters/shumps/bullet hell/curtain fire/whatever you want to call it. They're going to keep you busy for a while. The sheer difficulty of completing (ranging from just finishing the game without a continue to clearing one of the legendarily hard extra stages (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YJYj6gOl6M&feature=related)) gives you an unbelievable sense of satisfaction when you finally do. Google can give you more info.

...However be warned that it is also a game about questionably-aged girls in maid outfits that fly around and shoot lasers at each other. That may take time getting used to if you're not already used to that kind of thing.

Agreed. WoW only works if you can play with core people, but Warcraft 3 is amazing. And MechWarrior is the shit.
