So I just met Alyx Vance.

A few months ago, me and some friends reserved a ticket to Spamalot, a Broadway musical adaption of Monty Python & the Holy Grail, playing in the local university theater today (which is quite impressive, mind you.) Grabbing my program, I flip to the cast list, and who do I see playing the Lady of the Lake (not in the movie, but added to the play)? None other than Merle Dandridge, the woman who voiced everyone's most/least favorite video game girl.
After the performance, the cast stuck around for a bit; I approached her and pointed out my recognition, and she said she was glad somebody besides sweaty 16-year-old nerds recognized and appreciate her role in HL2. Then some sweaty 16-year-old nerds asked for autographs and I had to slide away with my friends, but it was kind of neat.

While Alyx isn't that high on my list of great chracters, it was a really amazing coincidence seeing someone so globally known, if only by their voice, acting in a (rather excellent) musical that happens to be 30 minutes away from where I live. Cool shit.

It seems to me characters like that are often hit-and-miss; some people love em, some people hate em. It seems most people love Alyx, tho. <3
