Not going to ingame. Will be to high poly. Basicly it will be a high poly M4 Carbine, when finished, I will get rid of the shit and make a low poly version for in-game.
All progress will be put in this thread, newest at the top. Also, bare in mind that my version wil have parts on it from a variation of m4 carbine versions.

The modeling seems fairly clean at least, so I've gotta give you credit for that. I'm not so familiar with the gun, but snaf/ross & co could probably give you comments in that respect. The first... thing seems a bit wider (not thicker, just... wider) than it should be - be careful to make sure they you don't wind up with the wrong proportions (as I have countless times with my mechs and ended up spending as much time fixing them as I do modeling). The first "thing" could also strand to have more sides - if polycount isn't an issue, I don't think it'd be unreasonable to up it some there.
Also, a tip : when it comes to high-poly modeling, it's usually a good idea to make as much of the model in seperate meshes as possible; I find it far easier to work with.
A wireframe view of the stock/grip would be nice.

On the attachment section I only had afew sides beause I spent ages trying to add those holes to the cylinder without the triangles being close together. Because they kept on making dark smoothing errors. Thats also the reason the holes dont have many sides.
I see what you mean about the fatness, I will fix. Thanks.
I will get you a wireframe of the stock and front grip in a bit, Just going to finish the front grip first.

What variation of the M4 are you going to do? If you do a grenadier version like CoD4's I'll animate it :V

The front sight guards should curve out at the top, same as the old M1 Garand's. From this angle I can't tell if you've actually done it or not, but if you haven't, get to it. It might seem like a minor detail but it's a bloody important one.
Your rails are wrong, too. Look up some refs, it seems nobody even bothers when they model rails.

e/ Sorry, I'm an idiot, you do have refs - is that off a real heatshield or an airsoft one? Because those sure as hell aren't standard M1913 rails...

I'd love to animate this when your done, but I'd prefer to remove the vertical grip, if thats ok with you.

As much as I apreiciate your crit, a bit of help on how to make it right would be nice. Because all I can see in that post is delete and start again.
I dont see what is wrong with the grip, so maybe post an image of the correct grip?
And the barrel is probably from an airsoft gun.. so thats probably wrong.
Also what do you mean about poly distribution?
1. Its not for ingame.
2.I dont see what is wrong with it... images?

For one, if you're getting details wrong then get yourself a bigger reference picture. Just googling I found this (https://www.evotactical.com/images/m4-sopmod-poster.jpg), this (http://www.colt.com/law/downloads/M4_Commando_2.jpg), this (http://airsoftordnance.com/aegs/armalite/gr16a2carbine_big.jpg), this (http://www.modelguns.co.uk/images/M4A1b.jpg), this (http://www.colt.com/mil/downloads/m4_01.jpg), and this (http://www.fidelisfirearms.com/images/firearms/Colt/6920_stock.jpg). You could probably find even more at Colt's website.
Second, I think he's referring to the fact that you've got polies coming out your ass on the geometry of the grip, but the heatshield is extremely low by comparison. It's just good practice to have uniform levels of detail.

Ugh, ffs, if you're going to help, do it right. I'll reply that way if I feel like it. I don't need to baby-bottle feed him. Perhaps if I say "no" he should be an objective thinker and try for himself to get better references. But since you insist on holding-hands cheery ass-wiping help, here it is, the right way.

While super high detail is always fun to do, a model with useless details is itself useless. Yes they're cool to look at but what can you do with it? I'd suggest to model for a game, however that's up to you. One other thing besides the rails, your flash suppressor is incorrect. The gas holes only cover the top half of it. The bottom is solid. And you definitely need better refs, and pay close attention to them when modeling, don't just jump right to making it off a general idea.

Im just going to model game version, like Pen said.
And wtf Snaf, why be so arrogant, where is the harm in giving people a hand. I looked at a load of rails, and they were all different.
I do understand where you are coming from though Snaf.

Here's a really handy tip. Never ever use airsoft references alone, because they're not always accurate. Never ever use the attachment system from one gun as a reference for another unless they look nearly identical, because some rifles (XM8 et al.) have different systems entirely. The M1913 rail is what Snaf posted, and what Snaf posted only. They may screw down in different places and the actual raised parts may have a channel down the middle, but the overall profile is exactly the same. If they were all different, it would completely negate the purpose of using one attachment system across numerous things, for numerous accessories.

Also, if you still plan on getting this ingame/making it for a game, I'd recommend modeling a low poly/quad-only and then making your high poly from that. It's a lot more work to make a low poly out of a high poly than to make a low poly and base the high poly off of that.

Snaf told Hunter only what needed to be said; powdering up constructive crit with unwarranted praise isn't necessary.
I have to admit that the model looks fine but I do have to say that I'm really getting bored with the M4/M16/AR15 design in general.
