Someone explain to me why I can't just pay the government to route an OC-12 line into my house. That way I could cut out all monthly internet costs from ISP's and skip tier 1 internet "wholesalers" all together...

Go.

Because the government doesn't give a shit your need for pornography and torrents.

If you could get such a fat pipe, so could everyone else and then the net would be slow. :p

Mainly because of the gay factor. The government hates people like you.

Because the ISPs have better lobbyist groups than you.

All of those reasons are pretty gay. I see no reason why it couldn't work, except that I'd have nothing to connect an OC-12 line to to convert it to Ethernet...

Because the government is afraid we'll start making bandwidth out of thin air like we do to money.

Buy one of those routers the ISPs use.

Fucking Government, always ruining my fun. They start limiting Airsoft, and now they won't let me have unlimited internet for free.

What the fuck.

There are still some unlimited plans, you just gotta do your research!

I have multiple high caliber semi automatic rifles. Explain to me why so many people like yourself make similar comments? You can't legally run around and shoot your friends with high caliber semi automatic rifles...

Unlimited speed*

Bandwidth has never been an issue with my provider, all plans are unlimited.

My grampa tried hooking up to a government line, then the FBI came to his house

It's in my profile, take a look.

Also, no you can't. And even if you did, it wouldn't be very fun. Either way, I have fun doing both airsoft and big game hunting.

Simply because you could very well pose a security threat. Whether or not you would do it isn't the issue, but you'd have the potential to sniff every packet sent around the internet, thus gaining access to all sorts of private information.
