View Full Version : Wheres my walls at??

Okay, basically loading my map I see this horrific sight.

There is obviously alot more walls than is being displayed. I dont have the original max files, I'm hoping I can export a file using map editor.

I managed to find my whole tags folder, so I have all the corresponding tags, however I dont have anything from the data folder sadly...

What I dont understand is why some parts show and some dont, I'd make alot more sense if either all of it showed, or none.

Btw dont ask what map it is, tis a secret. Bad-ass people will recognise it, even though most have never seen :O

Use aether or bsp converter to import the bsp back into gmax or 3ds.

So, you think a recompile of map may show the other walls?

Probably the engine being gay and clipping polies, dose your map have portals, or is it high poly?

I just want to see if the polies exist or if they are completely gone.

Definitly doesnt have portals. It may be pretty high poly, Zechs (h2CE modeller) modelled it like back in 04.

I cant remember it being like crazy poly though, its a small indoor map. (probably about size of Chill Out.

It possibly is the textures of the map.
If they worked before you did anything to it, then back-track till you find the problem.
It looks more like the textures/shaders are just messed up, see if something's wrong with the .bitmaps.

I have this problem sometimes. Try triangulating all your faces by converting to editable patch and then back to editable poly. That's only if you get it back into max.

Yea, looks like clipping issues for sure..
Once you get it in max, try adding a few exact portals(since it's indoor) and such..

It might also be that those faces had the sky material applied to them by accident. You'll soon tell as when exported back into max, the faces will be missing (sky faces aren't stored in the render mesh).

Hmm, well that might be the case for a few of the textures, but definitely not the most of them. I was the one that was uving the map...

One thing is weird, I tried to compile another map of mine from the tags I found, no bsp showed up at all, everything else as fine, objects, doors, AI, lights etc.

Might just have to call it quits and bury the map :(

If it's high poly (higher than 30k) or very large, then portals (or lack thereof) are definitely your problem. You don't even need to do exact portals. Just make sure each portal is one quad which completely covers exactly one gap, and make the portals to separate each room.

I asked Zechs about it, he couldnt even remember us or the map lol.
