This is a .gif of Tom Pryce hitting a race marshall at full speed. Both men died.
What you see pinwheel away from the vehicle is the race marshall. He is split pretty much down the middle and was only identified once all the other marshalls were accounted for.
Tom Pryce however was struck under the chin, by the marshalls fire extinguisher. The impact was so great that his helmet was torn from his body with his head still inside, and tore the air intake off the top of his car.
Several members of the crowd were also killed and others injured by shrapnel.

Then you obviously know nothing about howfast those indy? cars are going/force against a person/front wing. It could tare through you pretty damn easily. That's why the crashes are always really bad in series like those.

Excruciating for a few seconds, then you'd either go into shock or pass out before you died. I was doing some down hill biking at North Shore in BC 4-ish years ago and a friends friend got impaled on a tree. We immediately called 911 and he was airlifted out within 15-20m but he went into shock in 30 seconds to a minute time. The branch impaled him through his upped chest, nicked a lung but didn't puncture it and missed anything else extremely vital fortunately.

Once he was in shock it was quite odd, if you've ever talked to someone in shock you'll know what I mean. The human mind basically shuts out your receptions, yet keeps you somewhat conscious. We were able to talk to him right up until the paramedics sedated him and cut the branch off the tree and medivaced him.

Yep. When decapitation was still the preferred method of execution, they'd hold the head up to show the crowd; usually the decapitated would have just enough blood left in their head to see their own headless body. How lovely that must've felt...
