Lately i've noticed my pc has been slowing down where it should not.
i used to beable to run crysis on medim with a single 7800gt at a reasonale resolution.
My CPU is a intel E6750 which is supposedly stock @ 2.66Ghz...now for some reason it has been downclocked to 2.1ghz and is even registering in the bios as 2.1ghz.
when i go into Ntune to see what is up the overclocking part of the app says i can only clock it upto the stock speed.
Any ideas on what is going on?
i have C1E disabled as well as speedstep and therm throttling.

Load the BIOS default settings? You could also manually set the clocks in BIOS too.

i have tried resetting the bios but for some reason its not helped and when i try manualy setting the speed in the bios, it dosnt have the option for cpu speed only the FSB.

FSB x multiplier would give you the clock speed... for you it's 266mhz x 10 I think.

What is the temperature. If a processor gets too hot, it'll automatically slow down to keep from overheating and causing damage.

If you set your power settings low -- it'll underclock your processor.

Go into your BIOS and turn off SpeedStep if you wish to have full throttle 100% of the time.

45*C the bios are now showing as 2.66ghz but Ntune still insists it is 2.1ghz. any ideas? the setting are full throttle not power saving things either.

You probably EIST, C1E and/or Thermal Control or something to that effect on (those are how they appear on my board, EIST is the same thing as SpeedStep so it may be called that). Turn all those options off and it should stay at whatever you set it to. Your motherboard's manual should have descriptions of what the power savings stuff is so you can turn it off.

I may have found a possible cause of the issue, for a while ive noticed malwarebytes scanner crashes about half way through a daily scan today, ive had a warning come up...
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/9678/screenhunter01apr170157.jpg
Which then proceeded to show a fake scanner which i promptly closed.
Anyone heard of this virus before?
i can't run malware bytes and AVG is completely dead in the water.
i am well aware the threat is what is causing the warning error just to clarify.

See if system restore works.

If that fails, back up what data you can and nuke the OS.

Will probably take more effort to remove the virus than it would to reinstall windows really fast and throw your files back on.

I've had to get rid of fake scanners like this. One of them was something like "XP Antivirus 2009" or something. Rename the Malwarebytes executable file to something like "cheese.exe" and then scan with it.

I cannot find a single peice of info on this as yet.
it appears to be a service of somekind, but does not show in services.msc which makes me think it has something to hide.
