As long as your computer is beyond the specs of an Xbox, you should be fine. Remember, no super DX10 card is needed to run Halo 2 PC at maxed settings, because the graphics have not received much of an update from the Xbox version (apart from better textures and higher resolutions).

I recommend a 2.5Ghz processor or AMD equivalent (but if you have a Core 2 Duo, ignore the Ghz part because it no longer matters), 1 GB RAM (DDR is fine), and a 128 MB video card with at least 8 pixel pipelines (DX9 or DX9c cards only).

As far as I know, unless you're still using integrated graphics or a super low end card, you don't need much of an upgrade just to play Halo 2. I bet that Rossmum's computer can run it (although playability is another story, because his computer appears to barely hit the marks in Halo 1).
