At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Lest we forget.

That's right folks, it's April 25th, ANZAC day. For those who are new here and haven't seen the threads, it's a time when Aussies and our trans-Tasman brosefs the Kiwis stop to remember our fallen soldiers.

And one of the biggest balls ups of WW1, but lets not go there :P

Marched in the school marching band, I've got pharengitis (sp?) but whatever.
Had my dead neighbours medals on too. (from WW2)

Might get a pic up later.

Pretty much every country has an army, or some sort of defense.

How did they die though? I've actually never heard of a war involving them, and school doesn't teach us much more than about the natives who lived there.

Robert, its about WWI, or specifically, military actions in Turkey during WWI. Although now it means alot more. Its been expanded to basically include all the soldiers who fought and died in Australian military actions. At least to my understanding.

Basically, incompetent British commanders leading Australian forces sent them in to die in droves for wave after wave while attempting to invade turkey and the crumbling Ottoman Empire.

It's like, you know, most of WWI. Except that it was under the command of the imperial power and not the commanders of the nation itself, which combined with the futility of it all, made it a resounding catastrophe. That was the last time Australians ever marched under anyone but their own commanders, iirc.

No, that's actually a good idea, but this one's a tad more appropriate -
