Yeah, it's not much after so long an absence, but life got in the way. Anyways, I picked up the Plasma Burst I left off on, dusted up some of the effects, and added a completely new charging effect.

Plasma Pistol's also gotten a bit of an update; most notably in the contrail.

I think the overcharge time for the PP is too short, or atleast the animation doesn't portray the time right.

That charge orb on that Plasma pistol needs a little more suspensful build, or else it wouldn't be the plasma pistol. Make the beginning charge of the plasma small and end the charge with a large orb.

Yeah, it's still WIP; I just threw it out there in the outlandish hope that maybe you guys would like it. I'm having trouble nailing the look for that; just having no contrail is starting to look like a good option.

That's precisely what I've been trying to do; since the charging effect is an actual .effect tag instead of a lens flare, it can't be scaled by weapon functions. I think I may be on to something, though, so hopefully I'll have that fixed soon enough.

You can kill up to three with a single burst. The video shows two kills with one.


It's designed as more of a suppressing weapon, better when used in tandem with other teammates' bullet-based weapons instead of on its own.

Have you thought of using a Wraith shot-like contrail for the plasma pistol? It might bypass that 2D issue with the current one.

The only thing I dislike is that when you first start charging the plasma ball, its just a solid orange color. That looks kind of ugly, but then it looks great when the yellow tint comes in. Maybe just have the yellow tint the whole way through? Then it wont look so bland.

Or start out with a hint of red then fade it out and move into yellow?

Update. Plasma Pistol charging finally working (thanks CAD), and trail has been changed to emulate the Wraith slightly (thanks Itszutak.) I don't call it a contrail because it's actually using an attached .effect tag rather than a .contrail tag.

Framerate's a little jumpy due to gay Fraps being gay, so excuse any hitches or dropped particles. Make sure to watch in HQ.

Oh, and as for the burst: The yellow you see is actually the growing lens flare expanding. I'm experimenting with other things to try and replicate that from the outset. More on that in a day or two.

I think the PP contrail should have more a cone shape (start off from large and start minimizing near the end) and the duration as to how long the trail is there should be slightly more lengthy.

The charge effect is fucking gorgeous but the contrail....not so much.

Have the second contrail taper off into a tail at the end......you know whta I mean. And make it longer.

Got damn you guys make this shit hard, but I think you'll like this; I know it certainly turned out better than I thought it would. Also take a look at the Plasma Burst charging.

Agreed, that contrail is pretty amazing, though it looks wierd as hell coming from the FP camera.

Beautiful when viewed from the side, though.

Hey so I thought of the concept for the third weapon: the Plasma Sniper.

Primary fire: instantaneous beam, 3rps. 4 shots for shields, 4 more for kill, but can cause headshots (leading to a 4sk if you have aimbot hax)

Secondary: Charge for 1.5 seconds to release a bigger beam that can down shields in one hit, but you can only hold charge for 3 seconds before beam auto-fires. (Maybe have it blow up in your face instead?) Also causes headshots, but takes 2 more hits against an unshielded opponent to kill.

Works fine ingame so far; I'm tweaking the functionality a little bit more before I start working on visuals.

E: I found a flaw: Down the shields with a charge and then spray n' pray the primary until dead. Circumventing by having a longer cooldown time, giving the target plenty of time to react.
EE: So I'm trying to find a way to keep this from being redundant due to the Sniper Rifle; more shots, more availability, or what? Since the SR has a higher rate of fire and more damage per bullet than the charged shot, it overpowers this gun easily; and yet this one's too powerful to be considered a regular weapon.

What I haven't seen in a heat-based weapon yet: the setting where if you have it overheat you have a slight chance of the weapon spontaneously detonating on you.
