Scientists say they are a step closer to developing materials that will render people and other objects invisible.
Researchers say they can redirect light around 3D objects using metamaterials--artificially engineered structures created at a nano scale that contain optical properties not found in nature, according to an Associated Press (http://news.cnet.com/8301-11386_3-10013127-76.html) report.
whats everyones thoughts on this?

I've seen a video where some Japanese scientists (correct me if I am wrong here) were testing out some cloak suit, it sort of looked like tin foil, and made the person partially invisible, you could see through him, but it was distorted a bit.

Yeah totally done in like -- After Effects or something.

There's no way holding up a ball in front of your face will know what's behind your head.

at any rate, I love the idea in the first one.

Lets stand in a high traffic road wearing an invisible raincoat.

Yeah, the second video had me puzzled, but the cloak looked real.

Is it not so extremely obvious to everyone else how easy this stuff is to do?

The guy is standing in front of a green screen holding an object with green stuff on it. The "magnifying glass" AKA mirror just has the glass painted green on it.

Chroma key it out in your video editor and just multiply the mask back by a small percentage of white so that you get some of the original with most of the background.
