Socket LGA 775

So my dad's office PC has a GigaByte GA-8I945G Pro Motherboard in it with a Pentium 4 630 HT 3.00GHz as the CPU. Since the socket is LGA775, is it possible to pair a Core 2 Duo processor with it? On the motherboard box it says "Optimized for Intel Pentium D/Pentium 4 Processor." I know I can use a Celeron on it but I'm not sure if anything newer than a Pentium D will be compatible with the chipset. I've tried looking this up but haven't found any solid answers. Anyone have some answers for me?

No, unless the chipset was ahead of its time and there was some magical BIOS update that allows it to recognize anything newer than a Pentium D (that was 4 years ago...).

I thought the first gen of Core 2 Duos used LGA 775 slots?

All Core 2 CPUs use 775 sockets, but not all mobos will recognize all cpus.

I did some research about this some weeks back and I was looking to see if the GigaByte 945G chipset has a BIOS update to enable certain Core 2 Duo processors, but I have come out empty handed.

I was under the impression intel chipsets over I45 supported dual core's so wouldnt this support Core2Duo as well?
