View Full Version : Viacom and Youtube Copyright Problems

Alright, this is pissing me off to the point of insanity. I've uploaded many videos today on youtube of video game cutscenes, and 75% have been blocked completely, with no ability to dispute it, by the company Viacom.

The cutscenes in question that were blocked were all the Team Fortress 2 Meet the _______ videos, Call of Duty 4 intro, and Halo Wars Intro, all of which are freely availiable.

What the FUCK can I do here?

If they have nothing to do with them, then they are breaking YouTube's (and the DMCA's) policy for copyright infringement reporting. Only the actual copyright holder is authorized to submit a complaint.

They aren't. Viacom is only associated with MTV, VH1, and BET I believe. But, even though they don't hold a copyright for any of them, they don't provide any link for me to dispute the copyright claim.

E: just read the DMCA copyright policy, and it is BLATANTLY obvious they are just taking jurisdiction over the material. Each one of those videos was blocked mere minutes after uploading them, meaning that they are neither filling out a legitimate form, nor paying attention to what they are blocking.

You should be able to dispute the claim. Say that none of the content is theirs and they have no authority. I highly, HIGHLY doubt they are working on Microsoft's behalf.

Paste the video ID of yours in place of the x's. You should be brought to a simple dispute page.


In the meantime, re-upload the same video and tell Viacom to suck a fat dick.

I say just call them up and ask if they have any affiliations between any of the things you listed, as a friend said maybe they were merging or some bull like that. Would probably lead the person around the problem that they were idiots and had your things deleted without actually paying attention, of which they would most likely claim that everything they do is for a reason and your video is going to stay down until they are brought to court.

How the hell are they doing this? Doesn't youtube check with the respective people to see if they actually have any ownership in the respective product?

Wow, Viacom are some big ass douche bags. If I was that guy in the article, I would file for money settlement because they not only took up his time, but they also took his own content that clearly is/was his property. Blah, rich bastards these days know no bounds.

Sorry for not responding to this earlier. No, I didn't alter the cutscenes in any way, save a lead-in and lead-out.

they're trying to compete with hulu.No, no they aren't. They've been giving special accounts for free to people who create their own content, as well as the whole Youtube concert, fighting with the RIAA for content... etc.

The majority of what they DON'T want is people saying "Wha wha! My Ex put my video up on youtube 'cause I was drunk! I hate him take it down!" when they in fact have no legal grounds to take it down... wasting their lawyer's very expensive time.
