View Full Version : Tablet screen pinout (for DVI conversion?)

My HP tx1000 finally ate it so I removed the entire touch screen assembly from it in hopes that I'll be able to integrate it into my desktops case. My plan is to integrate the touchscreen into the motherboard-side side panel on my case and use it as a "media" touch screen. So I basically need to convert the laptop connector to DVI+Whatever I need for the "touch" part of the screen.

Ideas?

If you plan to use the screen from it, you are going to need an LCD controller, which costs about 200$ last I heard.

What? There should just be a pinout setup or something. I'm not going to spend anything over $20 to get this to work, lmao.

There is no pinout. These don't have standard interfaces. They require a special chip that converts incoming VGA/DVI signals. You'll be hard pressed to get the display to work at all.

The touch screen / tablet is USB, though, but it's directly wired.

In order to get it to work, you need something to "control" the lcd, and since that is often built into stock motherboards for laptops and other portables, you would need a universal lcd controller

Urh fine, I'll put it all back together and throw it out.

Thanks for the (lack of) help.

Why are you throwing it out? Is it completely busted? You can always try to salvage it...
(Also, stop complaining when someone tells you that what you're trying to do is impossible/horribly difficult, it's not our fault)

I was being sarcastic, my bad for lack of smiley.

Also, I'm not going to throw out the bits that work such as the hard drive/memory but the power connector is busted so it can't recharge (the battery doesn't hold a charge anyway) or run off AC power alone. Would the Processor/Wireless module/Bluetooth module be worth keeping as well?

You can buy DC jacks off of Ebay for extremely cheap. Additionally, a battery could be maybe $20-70.

Chances are that you can't remove the processor - it is integrated. The wireless card is something you can remove, and probably the bluetooth as well. Though, not really sure what good you can do with them.

It's possible to get to the processor on this laptop, I've already had the entire thing disassembled down to components. I'm not going to bother fixing this, just going to sell it's working parts to put money towards a good laptop.

I know this is an old thread, but I am looking to salvage the touchscreen from my tx1120us. Maybe not the screen, but the touch panel. I was thinking of just soldering the pins that come from the panel to a USB port on the motherboard so I can just use it as a tablet in the case it is already in. I'm just not sure which pins are for the touchscreen. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Just the thread I was looking for. I have dreamed about converting my Acer Travelmate tablet to external screen/tablet for my desktop. I would be very nice to have touchscreen that I'm able to take to the couch, but also need as my external screen for drawing for example, if I need. Even when the iPad is published.

Here you shot down my dreams with the stupid controller, but I managed to found this (http://www.shogan.co.uk/?p=350 / "You also need to unplug the LCD controller panel’s plugs and unscrew a grounding wire.") piece that made me think that could there be possibily to get the controller from the laptop itself?

Also I have if anyone have some toughts about converting the touchscreen controlling to usb/mouse, I would be very happy to know.

And if there are any ready projects something similar to this, I would be very happy to know.

My tablet is sitting dead and stripped bare for parts as of now. I'm hanging onto the screen in-case I ever get what I need to make it into an external touch-sensitive monitor for my desktop.
