I actually forgot to turn off Xfire one time and OS ran fine. No clue why.

Also, on a new installation of Windows 7, so no more OS worries.

WHAT!?

I can run xfire over open sauce fine as well.

Was it in the root folder or did you inject the .dll file?

I just placed the .dll into:

C:\Program Files\Games\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\

Everything works fine for me.

Well it works fine over xfire if you disable in-game chat. Try this and tell me what happens: Open up xfire (enable in-game chat if it isn't enabled) Then open up haloce with the OS .dll in the root folder. See what happens and tell me please.

It was enabled already. Just tried it again, seems fine.

Hey Korn, I just had a thought: does OS have anything to do with .NET at all? I am using .NET 2.0 whereas others might be using 1.1 or 3.5. I know DXTweaker needs .NET to work.

OS is compiled to pure x86 assembly. No .NET ILasm was used in the making of this product.

DXTweaker works for me too. It says it stopped working but halo starts and the camo fix still works, so yeah. :X

I just placed the .dll into:

C:\Program Files\Games\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\Everything works fine for me.
Do three things for me:

First, does OS actually work? Can you type "gravity 0.01" in console and have it work?

Second, try it without dxtweaker.

Third, does Xfire automatically update for you? Are you using an older version? If you haven't updated in a while, post your "xfire_toucan_*****.dll" file in the Xfire program files folder.

Using most recent XFire build. Also already tried it without DXTweaker, still fine. I'm getting motion blur, etc. with all the shader patches, so OS is working; here's the catch: as soon as I insert the -console argument, CE won't load anymore. Take it away, and it's fine. Also, even though I have In-Game chat enabled, XFire won't actually work in-game. =|

http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1668/proofa.jpg

E: Nevermind, got console working. OS is working 100%. The gravity argument worked. For some reason I can bring up the console without the -console argument, unless that's normal for CE with OS.

NO ISSUES

I am running with the version changer, on the 1.08 EXE, using the Thirdperson and FP FOV app

ALSO
Dxtweaker will work without any errors whatsoever.

Well, the surreal filter (the unmodified one) kinda flickers like one of those old films from the 20s, but other than that it's fine.

I had trouble with the HEK tools crashing when I ran OS. I also ran into the problem with the dedi init.txt crashing Halo CE when installed along with Open Sauce.

Tool would crash immediately after successfully compiling the map.

What all is in this release of Open Sauce? I liked the vehicle boarding. I was hoping for device syncing.

Those issues will be resolved in the next release.

This was a test of the stability of the DLL in Halo CE only.

Would it even work in PC? I don't think so, because the way the files are set up and accessed is different.

It's probably just wine's distaste of any attempt to use a different DirectX library over its own. Halo itself runs fine, it's just when I tell it to use the native d3d9.dll sitting in the CE folder, it crashes on start up.

e: It would be very ironic if the only thing keeping me from playing CE on Linux was a project called Open Sauce, now wouldn't it?

NOTICE FOR LINUX HALO-PLAYERS (aka, myself)

You can not simply place the Open Sauce d3d9.dll in your CE directory and expect results. If you set d3d9.dll to (native,*) mode, it will crash Halo. (See above!)

Instead, go get Winject 1.7 or higher. Select 'haloce.exe' for the target process and your d3d9.dll (which you can, conveniently, give an appropriate name to other than d3d9.dll), and hit "Launch". You may get the error sound while Halo loads (because Winject can't do its fancy did-injection-work check during this time), but it should have worked fine.

I've tested this method with both a Yelo DLL that's being used to generate Synapse prototype data and with Limited and Skyline's FoV and third-person Open Sauce extensions, both worked fine.

The only downside to using this method is that you can't supply Halo with any command line parameters, so you can't use any widescreen resolutions or fun stuff like that. I'm hoping someone will provide a fix for this (ie, an Open Sauce command to change the resolution to any resolution you provide), but who knows if that'll happen.

Also, if you want to run dev mode, be sure it's started before hand or you'll have a shitload of problems trying to get it to start and do its magic.

I'm on 1.08, windows XP, visual studio 2005, gb of ram, 256mb graphics card, 3.4ghz duel core processor and I get an exception when I start it.
How ever when I reach the very end of the Direct X SDK installation it crashes and says installers corrupt, but it keeps all the files it installed.

:( I want to try open sauce so bad.

I get this error when I try to open tags using the OS HEK tools.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/martynball/os_guerliia_error.jpg

Also, when I try to excecute os_toolbeta I get an error saying I am missing "vorbisenc.dll". Full message says:

"The program can't start because vorbisenc.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I do not have the origional HEK installed, I am guessing that may fix my second error message. But I am sure I have had the first error message before when using the origional HEK, it is something to do with Microsoft Office.

Edit: I exceptioned when I opened haloce.exe with the OS .dll in my root directory. I used the one which you posted in your second post Korn.

Edit2: I downloaded VC++ 8like you said, and according to the installer I have it installed already becasue it asked if I wanted to uninstall or repair.

Here is the error report:

@Hunter: If you're missing a DLL, I suggest you download that DLL (MSVCR80.DLL). The OS HEK tools ran fine under Linux, I think you shouldn't have much trouble running them under Windows.

And vorbisenc.dll is the Ogg Vorbis encoding library, which you need because Tool uses Ogg for some audio... There are a number of things provided by the original HEK, I suggest you download and install it first.

@ dead project?

Kornman00
July 16th, 2010, 04:34 PM
no, it's not a dead project.

Also, you appear to be running the Postprocessing build of OS which was developed by FireScythe. It's all black due to a FOV bug IIRC. This has been fixed already but I don't think the fix was included in PP or at least the build you're using.

I tried this with the "OS Post Processing 06-02-10.zip" and "OS2 PostProcessing 25-02-10.zip" files, both resulted in same thing.

By the way, I'm looking for these post-processing effects, and I downloaded from the post processing thread - i'll try the other build as well.

i thought it was a dead project because the last "test result" was posted almost a year ago

Well this testing thread is somewhat dead, yeah :P. But the project and Q/A isn't.

I can't remember if this is the exact problem I had a few months back or not. If you didn't already, make absolutely sure that you install the DirectX June 2010 update. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

Dud, wtf. I come back here and find that my vote is changed to runs flawlessly on Windows XP.

Also, you must close Xfire to play the game.
Why must I, if this shit runs flawlessly? Either this crap dll is fucked up, or the injector (d3d9.dll) is not injecting properly, which is doubtful because I inject dll hacks into GunZ all the time and it works great with Xfire.

Or crap Xfire is fucked up and doesn't know how to inject properly? Yeah.

Try using any other hooks with Halo, and you'll find out it's Xfire which is at fault. There was a large technical post on the Xfire forums I found at one point, but they never did anything to fix it. Fuck them.

Prove it. I can use Xfire with d3d9.dll injected dll hacks on GunZ, but this shit doesn't work for mai halo?

Because it's not simply an injection. It replaces d3d9.dll completely. Also, problems between OS and Xfire don't really count because that is a known problem which cannot be fixed without Xfire changing the way it is injected into Halo CE.

Another thing: the June update isn't going to help his problem as we found out in the OS_Post Processing thread that it was an incorrect shader: http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?16647-OpenSauce-Post-Processing&p=534568&viewfull=1#post534568

Runs flawlessly as in there are no problems within the engine extension itself, OpenSauce, or how it runs on the operating system. Not my fault people want to hold on to yet-another-chat-program which doesn't want to follow the standard way of hooking a game's directx system to provide the features it has. Other DX hooks like Steam and SoftTH do, which are supported with running along side OS. I can't help shit which doesn't want to be helped in the first place.

honestly, Xfire is crap software and should just be ignored in development... if you want to chat with ur game buddies, then play in windowed mode - where u can easily alt+tab back and forth
