View Full Version : I have a bit of a dilemma...

Posting here because I honestly have no idea what to do.

A mate of mine died recently and it would've been his birthday tomorrow; his mum's having a bit of a get-together and I'd be a terrible friend if I didn't go. However I'm absolutely stumped as to what I should write on the card... I decided to make one rather than just go buy one, so I've got a blank card sitting here with a drawing of a bunch of Peshkas over Berlin on (he was into planes, and was Russian, so I figured it'd be appropriate); I need something to write. 'Happy birthday' or whatever just sounds off to me, I really don't know what to put.

Any (sensible) suggestions?

Though your soul has flown away, in our thoughts you shall always stay.
(perhaps change thoughts into hearts)

I dunno, that's nice and all but he was never one for poetry. I'd like to make it something fairly simple but I'm not sure if overly poetic stuff is the best idea. Problem is, I can't pin the wording.

That was the gist of what I wanted to get across, though. I hadn't had a chance to see him for a few years and it really bites that I won't now :|

miss ya mate.

conveys more then you could ever hope to achieve with sappy poetry.

Yea it should be personal, my poetry would be better as the printed text on the card I guess. Miss ya mate would be the perfect handwriting to go with it.

To a missed mate;

Thanks for all the good times, even though we never really got a chance to hang out after primary school. Even though you're not here, I'll never forget my good friend, Gena.

Reckon that'll do?

you know what the ironic thing about this is?

i actually wrote a whole poetic peice about it and just scrapped it at the lsat minute for what i wroe, and i reckon it's better for it.

Theres nothing we can say to help ya in this ross, we ant say OH WOW that BEAUTIFUl beacuse or perceptions vary from person to person, for all we know he liked the straight talk the no bullshit approach.

what you've got is fine, but is it what you'd really say? given the chance?

Most likely, except I'm a soppy cunt so I'd probably be stuttering like crazy.

I'm no good at this sort of thing... I have a lot of trouble expressing my feelings in words accurately, and it shits me.

I'm sure that they'll understand. The fact that you'll be there in support of their family means more to them than the fluency of your words.

do what i do

submese yourself in the tunes and it'll come.

just watched a youtube video/ poetry by this Romanian chick trying english poetry.

words just came, the vibe just flowed because as long as you try to do something your not being honest to yourself.
you have to START writting to write.

Even though the day has darkened, there are still sources of light.
We must never forget the ones who've passed, but allow the pain to disappear, and for the ones that have been lost, to know that they have been found. -Me

Whatever sounds good to you man, we didn't know the guy and can't really summarise your feelings for you.

Though if it were me, "miss ya mate" would probably be my #1 pick.

His mum was really glad I came and thought that he would've liked the card. A few old friends from school came along, as well as friends of the family... I came a bit close to going soppy during the cutting of the cake but in general we had a nice day remembering all the good times. He wouldn't want everyone moping about, he always made sure he had fun first and did everything else second.

Thread has served its purpose I guess, so I'll lock it; thanks guys, truly.
