What actually happens when they lock up the HD? Do they just freeze it and wait until you restart? :confused2:

Presumably it will resume normal operations when the motion sensor inside the drive senses no movement.

^^ What he said.
My macbook has said sensors, if you shake the thing you can hear the heads moving out of the way.... OR if you get a program you can have it make other sounds. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV7alYcq5Nk)
Or... there's other programs that use it where if you hit your laptop it'll switch programs (kinda like a violent alt tab lol)

Wow, that program is such a horrible fucking idea. Drop detect doesn't prevent damage, it's just a safeguard...

Well yea, but that's like saying airbags don't prevent damage. Shit's gunna get banged up, that's how it goes... this is just a way to prevent the heads from stabbing into the plates.

I'm wondering cus my laptops randomly locking up, no BSoD or anything, it just stops with the screen stuck and nothing working except removing the battery :/

I never said the drop-protection was bad, just the Saber program that encourages you to sake your laptop... You're talking to a guy that has a 1TB RAID 1 in his desktop for data protection.
