View Full Version : Recovery disk on a different hard drive

Ok so there is this recovery disk that reformats your XP installation to that specific computer when you need it to. The question is can you use this recovery disk if I buy a different hard drive? I think the disk detects the computer by your motherboard but wanted to make sure!

Current drive is only 90GB and has been clicking loudly lately making me think it will die soon.

Yes, you can. Just make sure you use the CD key that came with it. In most cases, it's located on either the side of your case or on the CD sleeve.

What do you mean the cd that came with it, you mean the computer?

I got that CD put away in some drawer and it's labeled "eMachines W3107 Recovery Disk"

those recovery discs are not like a normal xp disc, its a complete install imaged, so you won't need to bother with the cdkey.

it will work with your new hd.
