So today I went to my sis's convocation, and I came across someone you may not know by name, but know his works. XML. Yea, that's him. Tim Bray, part creator of XML and creator/manager of many other things. He is also known to be the uncle of the Internet because he helped create the first Search engine for Oxford.

He gave a speech and got his Doctor Degree (PHD) in Computer Science today.

Here are some pics:

Pretty cool. I've been in a few lectures from the dude who created the internet, Tim Berners-Lee. His pitches are a bit bizarre but fascinating.

But Canada has some British roots :O Motherland ftw.

This is probably one of few honorary degrees I agree with. I hate it when celebs get honorary degrees for basically doing bugger all, especially when they dont have to do all the hard work and pay for the education.

Have you guys ever been to a graduation? Depending how high you are in your degree, you get a different color.

Also, Seems its mostly Canadians here! :O

So his Wikipedia page needs to be updated 'cause he's Dr. Tim Bray now, right?

e: That was an honorary degree (http://www.uoguelph.ca/news/2009/06/eight_to_receiv.html).
e2: That bastard edits his own Wiki entry.

Yea, my bad, thanks for correcting me Bacon.

Fun? Yea, if you enjoy being there like 2 hours and hearing 500 names being named and then seeing them shake some guys hand, and wait till that one person that you know goes on the stage.... But it was worth it, cause I seen some awesome people today. :)

EDIT: OMG:

That's exactly how I felt at my high school graduation/commencement last Sunday. But I was one of the first few names to be called 'cause they go through the top five percent of the class first, then everyone else.

@Pope: You need to live near the border of Canada at least. I r from Cleveland, so it's just a dangerous swim away.

Okay what if I start investing in some huskies and a mushing sled and traveled to Canada in the winter when it's -70, does that work?

Anyways ontopic. Congrats for your sis dude!

This is awesome, wish I could've attended but I'm all the way in your...old home province, lol.

I wish I could meet people as notable as that :/ The daughter of the president of UBC (university of British Columbia) goes to my school and is in my year, and that's the most famous person whom I've met.

Currently, Tim is the Director of Web Technologies at Sun Microsystems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Microsystems).

appropriate choice, getting employed in Silicon Valley.
