thats because you dont understand that the death rate now is NOT comparable to the death rate if it mutates.

it's a mutation where afraid of, and not the initial onslaught of the flu.
The repercussions of it, if it goes deadly and continues to spread will be collosal.

beacuse people are ignoringthe dangers and it's not the conspiracy bullshit or obama destruction of the russian empire blah blah blah.

but actually things that have happened in the past.
look people need to realise that this is a serious threat, just not at the moment. But if it mutates which virus's OFTEN do where talkign about the lives of billions of people here.
and all you have to do is follow basic health and safety guidelines to limit the spread of the disease.
i dont want to die because uninformed jackass's laughed at the odds and allowed the virus to spread and therefore increase the chance of it to mutate and kill people.

Initiative people please.
it's not about what has happened but what CAN happen.
It's never been about what IS happening.

The media is scaring you for ratings but if you take the time to read informed articles or actually listen to people that know what the fuck they're talking about you'd think differently.

This arrogant ignorant bullshit rubs me the wrong way, especially if it puts my fuckign life at risk.

rossmum
June 12th, 2009, 07:55 AM
It is not a danger UNTIL it mutates. Which it hasn't, and which it most likely won't.

It's being blown out of all proportion, and rushing vaccines to people won't make it better; if anything it'll increase the risk of it turning nasty.

Bodzilla
June 12th, 2009, 08:53 AM
the vaccines are stupid yes but it's about a hazard here.

the potential is there. and people that completely blindside it to jump on bandwagons are fucking stupid but also dangerous.

rossmum
June 12th, 2009, 09:05 AM
Yes, the potential's there. So is the potential for any other relatively harmless, highly infectious disease to do something nasty. They should monitor its progress and advise people realistically of what's going on, but the kind of shit they're pulling here in NSW (forced quarantine for even a suspected case) is absolutely unjust.

Bodzilla
June 12th, 2009, 09:09 AM
it works though man.

the thing that makes this so deadly is we have so little experience with it. it's not like a normal flu and as such demands a little more respect.

if your listening to fox your a fucking idiot, but certain things such as you know trying to avoid rubbing your face, staying at home if your sick ect can go a long long way to helping it.

Ignoring it does not make it go away.
am i right duder?

rossmum
June 12th, 2009, 09:16 AM
You're right, but once again, the forcing of suspected carriers to remain indoors - literally not even allowed off their own property, or even outside; essentials are delivered to their door and they have to wait until the delivery people are gone before they open the door and bring the stuff in - is absolute bullshit and as a result I won't hesitate in keeping any flulike symptoms to myself. I get colds and bouts of hayfever so bad at times that they could be mistaken for a flu, and as little as I get out anyway, I absolutely will not be stuck in the house for a week or more only to find it's one of those.

All that is needed is common sense. Wash your hands. Cover your face when you couch or sneeze, and don't do it in anyone else's general direction. If you're well and truly sick, don't go out if you can help it. There's no need whatsoever to go around forcing people to stay indoors (under threat of arrest, I presume, otherwise how would they actually be able to force them to do so) for colds or regular flu cases.

Ah shit, Alaska got hit with the virus of swines.

-I completly agree with Bod about being worried of this virus. I got done watching this show called Anatomy of a Pandemic, and you know how simular swine flu looks like to the spanish influenza which killed millions worldwide? Very, Very simular, about 1 gene off from becoming as deadly as the spanish influenza. If it mutates and requires this gene then you can kiss our asses goodbye, and my guess is that it will mutate and become deadly in the year 2012, and I'm not talking about the whole "Humanity is going to die thing" although it may happen if the virus is deadly by then. If I'm right the spanish influenza actually broke out in late 1914 to early 1915 but was just a small minor flu that humans were use too. The virus over time adapted and learned the human body, and then decided to unleash it's might in 1918-1919 with 4 deadly waves killing millions of people. Think about this, the flu started out in late 2008 to early 2009. If you add those 3 years (think of the time the spanish influenza virus mutated in a human from 1914-1915 to the time it became deadly 1918.) you get the year 2012. Although, this is just my theory of what the virus may do in the future. I know a lot of people here are going to rant and call me an idiot, I don't care it's just a theory I created that no one has to agree too, but you should think about it.

-Plus if you rush people to get a vaccine believe it or not, it will kill more people then the virus, because of symptoms people can develop.

I got swine flu (doctor explicitly told me)... TWICE. Not fucking kidding. Let me tell you: it's not fun. I got the 2nd "dose" RIGHT AFTER I fully recovered from the first experience. How pissed off would you be if you had to suffer strep-like throat two times because some fucker decided to cough on you again? Anyway, my first "wave" of swine flu caused me to faint... two times. The doctor's theory was that I got dehydrated and didn't drink enough fluids while I was in bed the whole time. That was the first time I EVER fainted. The second one just came back with an even stronger sore throat; I HATE sore throats. I chugged scalding honey tea, about 9 glasses everyday, before the inflammation got a little better. Also horded the antibiotics, the advils, and the tamiflu (I did not suffer the vomiting side effect). Also, the brand Contac flu worked very well too, but I only started using it a few days after all the other meds. Watch out ppl, you don't want this shit in your body.

Oh yeah, I agree, Tamiflu is fucking expensive.

the hype over this virus is it's POTENTIAL not it's current situation.
and the more stupid people are, the less safe or cautious they are the greater the chance of it spreading and therefore the greater chance of a more deadly or harmful mutation.

if swine flu's going the way it looks like it is, and keeps spreading the way it has been (i seriously doubt they have any chance of controlling it anymore) then i suggest you get swine flu now to build some resistance to it just incase it turns deadly.
but where only at this stage of the virus because of stupid fucking people not following the simple easy safety precautions. people like the clowns on this board who mocked and ridiculed the statistics on the virus's current status instead of looking at the broader much more relevant long term picture.

do i need to fucking spell it out for you.

Bodzilla

just thought i'd post something from the article this thread is based around.

The 1918 pandemic started with a mild wave of flu in spring that fizzled out, resurfaced in the fall, and hit hard in November 1918. The flu circled the globe and killed an estimated 50 million people.
oh so, the virus we didnt have much immunity to mutated and became a more deadly disease?
wow look at that.

jeez i wonder what happens when we increase the rate and spread of infection? do the chances of a mutation increase? all signs point to yes.
Now what if we put 2 and 2 together and think about this for a moment.
so... if it has the chance to mutate to become a more deadly virus, a virus we have virtually no immunity too.... increasing the chance of it mutating is.... a bad thing.

josh golly Gee I"VE NEVER SEEN LOGIC THIS EXTREME.

i suggest you get swine flu now to build some resistance to it just incase it turns deadly.
Sorry man, but this is actually a really silly idea. If you catch the flu one winter it doesn't mean you'll be immune or have resistance to a different strain. It's not the chicken pox. In my opinion (at the moment) the worry is that it's just a flu virus that's relatively contagious, and so has the ability to knock down a large number of people pretty quickly for a few days to a week. Think of all the different strains of flu that have popped up in the last 90 years man, how many of them turned deadly?

Bodzilla
June 17th, 2009, 08:03 AM
i'm not saying COMPLETE immunity but you'll have SOME defense at least.

thats why just like the spanish flu it's more dangerous to young adolescents as opposed to older people.
because the older people have some type of immunity to it, although marginally.

you'll get swine flu both times, just the second time it wont be as severe as if it was a new flu

rossmum
June 17th, 2009, 08:11 AM
Oh, I see. Swine flu is one and the same as the 1918 flu and unless people are shacked up with no outside contact for weeks on end, it's going to kill everyone (actually, they've finally stopped that and let up with the checks and quarantine and FLIR sets at airports).

Bodie, if you fucking want to hide inside your house for a fortnight because you have a cold or mild winter flu, be my bloody guest. I, on the other hand, give no fuck about a flu which potentially could mutate in a few years and potentially kill a lot of people, because it's going to find a way to spread no matter what and there's no guarantee it'll mutate at all. If you definitely have swine flu, don't sneeze on people. If not, good. Dealing in maybes and possibilities is fucking pointless when there's absolutely no proof at all that it's likely, let alone certain.

Weak argument coming from someone who hasn't even caught it yet. They wouldn't be issuing something as expensive as tamiflu to counter it if it was a "normal cold." My advil liqui-gels probably would've taken care of the common cold in a few hours. Maybe you think you're jumping off the bandwagon and keeping it cool when you deny it but you're calling the disease a "normal cold," which it isn't. The symptoms between the common cold and swine flu, or any other flu for that matter, are quite different. Wipe that smiley from your post because I can guarantee you that you're not enjoying being bed-ridden after some asshole coughs on you because they couldn't control it. Yeah, but there's a difference between cautious and sensationalist, and so far the overwhelming global response has been the latter

The reason hes reacting this way is because people are misplacing his caution with sensationalism. What hes saying makes a large bit of sense, but the way some in this thread are reacting to it is definitely very frustrating.

yes

didn't you pay attention in school? the media will sensationalise anything if it gets them more viewers or sends people into a panic

ps bodie i know it's not your wording exactly but you're being way the fuck too paranoid and in any case it's my own choice what i do and when, and i sure as hell will not quarantine myself entirely for weeks no matter what kind of flu i get, calm the fuck down and take some time to think

e/ also it kind of worries me that you take headlines at face value when half the time they're some inane bullshit to do with celebrities nobody sensible cares about

That is soooo true.

But I totally agree with you that we should be cautious of the virus but not to the point of wearing masks. The virus is not harmless right now, but it has the potential to kill millions if it mutates it's genes correctly. I have to keep a thing of hand sanatizer with me all the time because my immune system is weak because I don't have a spleen. So even if i get the mild case of swine flu, well I guess I can say goodbye:(.
That is pretty much the reason my I'm worried about myself and this virus is because of my weak immune system.
