View Full Version : Quick Angry Rant Time!

Welp, been a while since I've done one of these, and while this isn't something I expected to have to rant about, I'm still mad enough to do one.

It's about the recent David Letterman "mishap," in which he made several jokes directed towards the Palin family. One joke in particular has apparently 80% of America in an uproar, judging by the forum feedback I'm seeing in other places. For those of you who have not heard of this yet, educate yourself (http://www.fancast.com/blogs/tv-news/letterman-apologizes-for-palin-joke/?cmpid=FCST_beta)

Seriously, the man made a mistake. A mistake with unfortunate implications, but a mistake nonetheless, which he apologized for! Yet, on almost every discussion board I've seen about this, at least 60% of the topics are calling for his removal from the air, calling him a disgusting pig, etc.

Now, yes I'm aware whoever wrote the joke got their facts mixed up, and that was an error for which they probably got fired. That said, I personally find it shameful that people can't excuse it, but what am I to expect from the world America these days? Don't want to come across at hate speech here, but a large percentage of the American public are fucking pussies.

I could rant about this much further, but I think this quote about sums it up:

"If anyone is disgusted by those jokes, please do not step outside your door, turn on the radio or the television. Heaven forbid your pure, virgin ears may hear a disparaging comment. Typical meathead right-wing overreaction."

And then you take a look at this:

"Today's news.
Letterman thinks it's OK to make a sexual joke about Bristol but not Willow. Because of FOUR YEARS?
And he won't even apologize.
Using gender as a basis for belittling jokes (be that rape, flight attendant dress, etc.) should be left in the past. It is a demeaning crime based in hate.
The man is obscene, abusive, and sexist. Feminists need to work together to get this garbage removed from the air."

Discuss, and if any of you were offended by this accidental joke, please explain.

I didn't really give a shit, Bristol Palin is a whore anyway. :\

"The man is obscene, abusive, and sexist. Feminists need to work together to get this garbage removed from the air."
Feminists in general are hypocritical to the highest degree and need to shut the hell up. It's all well and good to push for equal rights but I find it absolutely revolting that women can say whatever they damn well like about men, but the moment it's reversed, it's a heinous crime against humanity and the perpetrator is a revolting animal. I also love how mothers get preference in most custody battles and how domestic violence against women is taken seriously, but domestic violence against men is treated as a joke. The really die-hard ones cry about objectification of women, but nope, it's fine to do that to men.

Perhaps it's time we started marching down the street waving obnoxious banners and making idiotic reactionary comments every time someone makes a joke which is even a little bit in bad taste.

Reading through the comments on that story makes me wish the Cold War had gone hot in the worst way possible. People are such crybabies these days, the comments wasn't even that offensive and it was plainly an accident which was no fault of his.

fuck feminists

like sure

its cool you have rights now and stuff, and wanting to defend them but fuck no one is trying to infringe on them and you get all pissy when someone makes a joke in good humour

or over stupid fucking things like chicks starving themselves because they wanna be like paris fucking hilton

fuck that shit

Jean-Luc
June 11th, 2009, 10:24 PM
Well the argument here really isn't about the feminists, that was just one example I saw. It's just that he made a potentially offensive comment that anyone with a brain (that hasn't been washed by sensationalist media) should instantly be able to make the connection to Bristol, the 18 year old. Anyone who thought he was referring to the 14 year old is a tool who is letting the media influence their opinions. Yes, I get the fact that it was the 14 year old at the ballgame, not Bristol, but Dave wasn't aware of that when he said the joke.

It's a sad day in America when you can't make sex jokes about daughters of political figures that got themselves knocked up and made a big deal about it in the public limelight.

As my faith in the future of America slowly disappears... (http://www.fancast.com/blogs/tv-news/sarah-palin-scolds-letterman-on-today/?cmpid=FCST_itn_0612)

Read the comments, some of them are horrifying :gonk:

"Had this been a family or woman or child of any other ethnic background, it would NOT have been tolerated. The tolerance of the treatment of caucasian women in this country is despicable!"

"It’s a sorry state when people of our country not only accept this kind of humor, but then defend it. This kind of talk should not even BE on television."

"WHERE ARE THE WOMANS RIGHTS GROUPS ?"

"My god, you people are uptight. RELAX. Sarah Palin parades her family around for the media and no one is supposed to take shots at them???"

" Matt,Have you ever heard of free speech? If you dont like what Letterman says, dont watch him!"

Take note that I said some of the comments are horrifying. :eng101:

I just put those two in there to achieve a slight balance. Also, saw a comment that got my mind working. Republicans are bitching because Letterman isn't apologizing, and saying "It's just like a liberal not to apologize." Well...weren't they just screaming their heads off at Obama for apologizing to the European countries? "He's apologizing like a liberal."

WHERE IS THE FUCKING LOGIC HERE?

Due to their religion, which prohibits women's rights, preaching for feminine rights is a death sentence. Any attempt will not only put you on every Middle Eastern government's hit list (again, save Turkey because Turkey is a secular Republic), but will inspire more hatred towards the west.

How about you get educated about my religion before you go saying some horribly ignorant bullshit about it, you fucking stupid asshole? Do you know how sick I am of hearing people like you say shit?

Snaf, I'm not trying to start anything. I apologize if I said anything to offend your religion, there was no harm intended.
Islamic law does dictate that women are to be forced into arranged marriages and not be able to go out into public without a Burma, something intolerable in the Western countries, hence, limiting their rights.

Due to that Islamic law, the religious fundamentalists which run most (but not all) of the Arab countries will put anyone who preaches for womens' rights on their hit list.

I did not mean anything against you, it was a misunderstanding. Feel free to correct me on any points I misunderstood, it's been about 8 months since I last took a class on Islam.
You're a fucking moron. You may have taken a class on Islam but you obviously got no facts out of it. You would do better not to try and explain anything about Islam because you quite obviously know nothing at all about it.

O and how about you guys shut the fuck up about the Palin daughters being sluts. Sure I don't like the Palins that much, but they are catholic and they can't really have sexual protection. So you mine as well call all the women who love the catholic religion sluts. Being pregnant and having a baby is not the same as being a slut, dammit!

Ironic post

For someone who is telling another member to think before they post, you certainly don't seem to practice what you preach. In no way does calling the Palin daughters sluts mean all catholic women are sluts. How you could possibly make that connection is beyond me, and it's actually a shining example of this oversensitivity that I'm talking about, and is the point of this thread. As for Catholic women "can't really have" protection, well that's fine...but aren't they supposed to wait until they get married to have sex anyway? And finally, considering Bristol got pregnant before she was even 18, please explain to me how being Catholic excuses her. Leave the hypocrisy out of this thread please.

Not at all. What Pope was saying was, in essence:

If you say something offensive to one person of a particular group, they you might as well be saying it to everyone in that group.

Sorry Pope, but that's the mentality that is putting this country so far in the shitter so far as political correctness goes imo (and you're talking to a liberal here).

Your right it doesn't but the way the people who posted earlier made it sound like a lot like it.
As for Catholic women "can't really have" protection, well that's fine...but aren't they supposed to wait until they get married to have sex anyway?
Wow I'm really impressed that you are learning.
And finally, considering Bristol got pregnant before she was even 18, please explain to me how being Catholic excuses her.
Excuse her from what? Being a slut? She wan't one in the first place of being pregnant. Maybe you should learn what being a slut is.

You completely missed the point of what I was saying. You have no validity if you tell someone to do something, then exempt yourself from that and do what he did.
Your right it doesn't but the way the people who posted earlier made it sound like a lot like it.
I saw one post, saying "Palin's daughter's are SLUTS." That's it. There is no possible way for that post to imply he's referring to all Catholic women.
Wow I'm really impressed that you are learning.

The point I'm really trying to make here people is that even though a girl is pregnant and has a baby before she is married doesn't mean that they are a slut. For fuck sakes if you guys believe the opposite then I feel as if you are total fuck tards and are the reason why this country is going towards idiocracy.

I'm not pointing this at you Jean-Luc I believe both of us came to an agreement by now. Shit I shouldn't really post with emotion because I have an 18 year old sister whose pregnant and has been with this guy for about 3 years and decided to move into an aparment with each other, i guess after a couple of months they decided that they really want a baby. Right now I'm not sure if it's that they couldn't afford the apartment anymore or there relationship got torn apart, but right now shes moving back into my house. Sorry for such emotional posts people.

June 13th, 2009, 08:31 PM
I apologize if you felt like I was insulting you, that was not my intent. My issue with Palin/Bristol is that initially, Bristol was preaching that abstinence was NOT the way to go, then she suddenly switched sides, most likely at her mother's pushing.

As for having a baby before marriage, that doesn't mean you're a slut, I agree. However, Bristol was pregnant before 18, which is fairly uncommon. That's likely the reason for people to look at her the way they do.
