Thanks.
Well, I thought since I have no life, I would have the time to maintain a thread like this, for healthy competition for our fellow members. Anyways, the whole point of this is to learn from others and to practice our skills and to see who can make the better thinga-magig.
Now here are the sections:
-Concept art
-Modeling
-Animation
- Skin + rendering
The competitions will be over these categories, in which in every category a different person could win. There will also be the grand prize, where someone will win overall in the contest, and yes, they will get a nice little prize for their victory.
Presentations will be as followed:

1.-concept art must have a border, which can simply be a black line at the bottom that has your name and the name of the thing.
-Concept art can be done in any media

2. - Models must have 4 views, front, back, side and a final show case render
- You must have a wireframe render

3. -Animations must have at least 3 or more moving parts to qaulify, a animation render can be done, or you can do picture by picture directions of how each part moves, you do not have to follow any laws of levers or gears or anything in that matter, but you will get extra points for doing so

4. - Skins must have atleast a diffuse, normals and specular, though multis and other things are allowed
- The render must be clear and of high standard (this can count as your show case render)

Now you DO NOT have to compete in all of the categories, but doing so will significantly increase your odds of winning the grand prize.

Even if you feel your skills are not up to this, keep in mind that you may be the only one to enter the contest, and if you do, you will basically get the grand prize by default, so always try!!

The grand prize winner must pm me his address and zip code for the prize, or he will not be able to have it mailed to him (yes the prizes will be tangible and worth the effort).

The competitions will span 3 weeks, but is subject to change.
I will edit the original post to say the current challenge.

This 3 weeks challenge is:

Unique Aviation

I am giving all creativity towards this, infer anything from it, it can score you extra points, no limits on the tri count or texture resolution, just do not bite off more then you can chew for 3 weeks.

This weeks prize will be a brand new copy of Nic Kelman's Video Game Art, which gives a small history of video games, and goes into 5 levels of video game art, a must for any kind of aspiring video game artist with 315 pages.

Good luck, also partners are allowed, but no more then 2 people.
A question also, since most people in modacity will not participate in these, would you want me to expand this competition to a couple of other modding forums? That way it will actually be a fun challenge and not a waste of time?
This is all up to you though, so make your choice.

What other communities are you thinking of? CG?

Really depends, I was going to add halomaps for shits and giggles since it would be funny to see a halomaps member beat a modacity member since modacity rags on them all the time. But Cgsociety, maybe gameartist.net, poly count forums I might, thing is, I was aiming for the generally smaller communities, you can add suggestions of sites you would like to compete against, and I will post there.

How will you make the competition centralized? Right now if you add in other communities, it'll be all over the place. It will take a lot of copying and pasting to allow everyone to see everyone else's work and comments.

I thought the same thing, but the thing is, given the prize, I am sure not many people will participate. Also I planned on centralizing it here in the community, using this thread, I would post the rules and prize, and then paste this link and tell them to submit entries here. It would cause it to all be organized in here and with the final works having the border and name, I can tell what is finished and what is not. Also by having them submit it here it causes them to register and will increase our community with more modders, which is what the site was made for, instead of increasing it with the off topic shit posters

I can see why you're doing that, but I think making them sign up is only going to make more people turn away.

Well in that point they're just going to have to suck it up, as it would become way too disorganized, and if they don't want to take 5 minutes to register, they obviously don't want that prize very bad, and so there would be no reaction from them, just them leaving. Now if I cater to them and let them submit it in the thread at their forums, it would become too disorganized, and it would be very likely that I would miss someones hard work, and after doing all that to try and get that prize I am pretty sure there would be very pissed off people complaining. Speaking of which, I need 3 judges to help me choose, I am tbh, looking for 3 kinds of members: 1. a respected one 2. a lurker that only watches, but has no real relationships with any of the members 3. a member everyone fucking hates. I want this so if we get a good turn out and there's actually a tough decision, each judge will have a different bias, and it will make them actually discuss it, instead of having 3 well known members picking their guy over some guy from cg. Also on the final 3 weeks, the competition started Friday, will end the Friday after next, the judges have to make sure they are online together sometime that day, and we will chat it over either in the IRC channel or by xfire or aim, depending on what they're most comfortable with.

Idk, I feel like it would make it kind of unbalanced if there were other forums. CG, gameart, etc. all have a lot of very talented artists, while modacity generally has intermediate level, but a few. If we wanted a competition at that level, we would go to one of those forums competitions, but I think it would make it harder for the members here to win. That's just imo though.

Corn I already addressed that on the first page, I was looking for opinions on yall for smaller communities.
