POST EDITREPLACED 12/21.

sup kids

So one day, I got bored and decided to continue working on this mod. I've pretty much done as much as I care to at this point. I'm making a video now in case you care about that kind of thing, Video done. Not showing off Minimalistic because it doesn't need demonstration and you probably wouldn't be able to see it anyway due to shit video quality.

Ifafudafi's Crysis Blood Mod

Readmes are generally boring, so to mix things up (both for myself and anyone who reads this) I've presented this readme in the form of a screenplay for a 60's advertisement.

---

[MR. JOHN is walking down the street in the suburbs. BILLY approaches from behind.]

BILLY: Hi, Mr. John!

[MR. JOHN pauses and turns around.]

MR. JOHN: Oh, hello, little Billy! Say, have you heard about Ifafudafi's Blood Mod for Crysis?

BILLY: I sure have, sir! But I'm not sure what it's all about...

MR. JOHN: That's okay. I'll give you the rundown!

BILLY: Gee, thanks Mr. John!

[MR. JOHN resumes walking. BILLY accompanies him.]

MR. JOHN: No problem, Billy! This mod simply adds improved blood effects to Crysis without interfering with gameplay. It's got entirely new particle effects and a vastly improved decal system!

[BILLY adopts a rather confused expression.]

BILLY: What's a decal system?

MR. JOHN: Decals are marks left on various objects. Usually, they're bullet holes and various types of dirt, but they also work equally well for blood splatters.

[BILLY is awestruck.]

MR. JOHN: In vanilla Crysis, blood decals rarely appear; and when they do, they're often inconsistent and incongruous. Here, a nice splatter will appear on walls behind enemies, and a pool (if it appears) will slowly spread out from dead corpses.

BILLY: Wow!

MR. JOHN: The decals also have environment maps on them! Do you know what those are, Billy?

[BILLY shakes his head, but looks extremely eager.]

MR. JOHN: This means that the decals will be more volumous; they'll also shine like liquid instead of seeming like discolored scratches.

BILLY: That's really neat, mister!

MR. JOHN: It sure is, Billy! But here's the best part.

[BILLY claps excitedly.]

MR. JOHN: The mod now comes with three different effects and decal systems: Minimalistic, Realistic, and Sadistic! In the Minimalistic .pak, a small, slight spray will appear when you shoot enemies. Wall decals are small and light, and pools are exceptionally rare; when they appear, they are very small.

BILLY: So Minimalistic is for weak-stomached sissies who shouldn't be downloading this mod anyway?

MR. JOHN: Exactly right, Billy!

[MR. JOHN pats BILLY on the back.]

MR. JOHN: The second .pak, Realistic, is the default setting, so to speak; it's the option the mod is best designed for. Enemies will emit a nice spray; it will look like red smoke from a distance, but if you get up close, you can see the individual particles shimmer, and you'll also notice a small squirt of fluid! Wall decals will be light (not bright, but less volumous) when
enemies are shot; but when you shoot one in the head, you'll get a much thicker splatter. Pools will appear frequently and will be fairly large.

BILLY: So what's the Sadistic .pak do?

[MR. JOHN appears excited.]

MR. JOHN: With Sadistic on, shooting enemies will cause liters of blood to burst from every bullet wound; each shot will cause enemies to lose as much blood as they should have in their entire body! Wall decals are massive and thick, and pools will always appear and will always be extremely large!

[MR. JOHN finishes with a massive grin on his face. BILLY has an even bigger smile.]

MR. JOHN: Sounds fun, doesn't it?

BILLY: Sure does, Mr. John!

[All of the sudden, BILLY adopts a rather concerned look.]

BILLY: But that's not very realistic, Mr. John...

[MR. JOHN kicks BILLY in the testicles. BILLY drops to the ground, wincing in pain.]

MR. JOHN: Of course! That's why it's not on the Realistic setting, you dolt! If you don't like it, go make your own mod.

[BILLY gets up and looks reassured.]

BILLY: Oh, I see! So if I've got any problem with the mod, I should stick a three-foot log up my anus?

MR. JOHN: Not quite, Billy! If you have any genuine suggestions for improvement, constructive criticism is always welcome. But if the only thing you can say is "LOL SUCKS" or "NEEDS MORE/LESS GOAR" then feel free to have fun with that log of yours.

BILLY: Gee, thanks for the info, Mr. John! I think I'll go download that mod right now!

[MR. JOHN smiles warmly.]

MR. JOHN: Good choice, Billy! I'd download it too if my computer wasn't held together with duct tape and running on power from a hamster wheel!

BILLY: Bye, Mr. John!

MR. JOHN: Bye, Billy!

[BILLY runs off in a seperate direction. MR. JOHN continues walking with a pleased expression.]

Minimalistic is the zu_blood_m.pak, Realistic is zu_blood_r.pak, and Sadistic is the other one. To install, place the one you want inside your Crysis/Game directory (default Program Files/Electronic Arts/Crysis/Game). Move the .pak elsewhere to uninstall.

Accredit everything new here to Ifafudafi, the rest to EA/Crytek. Feel free to further modify and/or learn from everything here, so long as you give credit where it is due.

Get it at Filefront (http://www.filefront.com/15188931/crysis_ifaf_blood.zip) (4.26 MB).

I was always dissapointed in the blood effects in crysis, they seemed to be sub par, even to half life 2's, and halo's.

Nice stuff

I like it, I can't wait to download!

You need the same effect that when you shoot a barrel, oil pours out. Only on the bodies... and blood.:downs:

Nice. I don't get why everyone likes zombies and gore though. Eh. :\

I tried using a combination of pooling and refracting, but (if you haven't noticed from the oil barrel) it's rather sloppy and inconsistent. While CE2 certainly has the capability to simulate some real-time liquid effects, it's much simpler and cleaner to just use the tried-and-true hit->particle effect->decal system. That, and for the liquid effects to have a noticeable impact, they'd need to be massive. Since I'm aiming for something that I'd like to think is a little more realistic, it's just not necessary.

Of course, causing enemies to emit buckets of blood could always be my next project :haw:

I'm almost done cleaning up. Expect a download link in about half an hour.

E: Well, that was quick. Uploaded; check first post.

One last thing though, would it be possible, to have the amount of blood that comes out increase overtime, and be limited at a certain amount, where the amount of blood that comes out depends on the area that the enemy is shot?
For example, if the enemy where to be shot in the head, a certain amount would come out on impact, and then slowly more blood would come out until the limit is reached, or, if the enemy where to be shot in the thigh, it would be alot more that would come out initially, and in the end.
E: Also, if the blood where to drip from walls, that would be awesome also.

I was trying to find a way to script the pools locationally, but my sparse knowledge of LUA coding and CE2's integrated coding makes that rather difficult.

As for dripping on walls... I doubt it; the closest I could get would be to use an animated decal, but that would already pose a ton of problems.

You could potentially use the liquid thing from the gas barrels for the blood if the amount that ends up on the ground increases, but have it be thin, or almost unable to stack for a big amount, and if not, you could possibly have it so that the decal would simply enlarge, and after a small amount of time change texture to a higher res one.

I'd be careful as to where you're going with this. EA's pretty paranoid about gore mods and stuff, especially with Crysis. Every single mod like this that I've seen has been shut down.

Not sure if this is possible with it, but perhaps make it so that different areas bleed in differing amounts?

From what I've seen, head/neck wounds tend to bleed a bit more than abdomen woulds and a lot more than limb wounds (which makes sense - less blood in the extremities). With abdomen wounds, depending on where the shot was, blood comes out of the mouth/nose as well as the exit and entry wounds.

Not sure if you want to get that graphic but it might add a nice touch :P.

Played Crysis today. Blood Mod is awesome. Finally gives that "oomph" to the the saying, "Stay down, bitch!"

In a slightly related but not really question, are there any blood or gore mods for Far Cry 2? I was pretty disappointed that for a game as realistic as it was it completely lacked any gore whatsoever and blood spray only when you initially shot someone...no decals or anything. Bodies look perfectly fine after being riddled with a 50. cal and pristine after laying in a fiery blaze for 10 minutes...

The first Far Cry at least had blood pools and bullet hole decals..

Far Cry 2 doesn't allow for modification of game files. You can only edit maps using the in-game editor.

Believe me, I was equally as disappointed. FC2 runs on a completely seperate engine anyway (it's derived from CE1, but only marginally).

It's a shame I don't own Crysis, I'd love to see the sadistic setting. So instead, I'll just comment on the beautiful readme.

All readme files should be like this, hilarious stage directions and all. But, whats this...
[All of the sudden...Grammar, kids. :eng101:

... Does this mean I have to get that log?

Edit: Ah. Well... eh, I suppose that's not the worst thing in the world. It's not like you said "on accident," right?

Ifafudafi

"All of the sudden," despite not making grammatical sense in and of itself, is a phrase used commonly enough that it can be considered a standard part of the English lexicon, in my opinion. But if it's really that egregious, I can change it to "suddenly."

woot sadistic blood
>: D
now make sadistic gore :P
I'd still love to see the blood pool though, think you could do that? (make gas spew from them, but just duplicate the entity or w/e it is, change the color of the gas from black to red then set it so that it comes out of the body when they die?)

Sadistic looks awesome. It's like L4D2 without the dismemberment.
