Though to be fair to Apple... Macromedia was just as bad with programs like Flash Player.

Also, jailbreak that shit.

It's totally worth it. You can get a app that can download videos from youtube directly to your iPod and change the springboard. There just so many things you can do with it.

3.0 works on an ipod touch? I hit latest update in itunes and got nothing.

Ensure that you are on 2.2.1 firmware (which you most likely should be, just check in iTunes), make sure you know what DFU mode means and how to enter it, and use this version of redsn0w. The newest one is for 3.0 firmware only I'm pretty sure.

redsn0w for 2.2.1 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AHHWUYBX)

@flibitidghsgawefwqe: you "have to pay" for it...

IMO, I don't see the need to upgrade to 3.0 atm. Apps are still buggy, so I'm just going to wait a few more weeks, see how things are.

Of course though Syuusuke, you could always upgrade to 3.0 and download the new redsn0w from www.redsn0w.com if you choose too. If you do, I can't really help you as I haven't done it myself, obviously.

One word: Bluetooth.

Though, really, the stupidity of Apple locking that shit in the first place... :fail:

e: redsn0w works great, done it twice now (different iPods, had a friend who wanted his upgraded and jailbroken... we then played Quake over my wifi)

The wifi sucks

Thanks saggeh 4 the link

And success!

AHHH do I HAVE TO use itunes to sync this crap?

LOL

Maybe he means images of very pleasant scenery!

So the only app I have is facebook and that free AIM (are thereany apps that allow me to sign on to multiple AIM accounts...like IM+ if not I'll just buy that).

What games/other apps should I get?

Hi plas.

Saggy

Get Tap Tap Revenge 2. It's free on the app store and actually pretty fun, if your into the whole music/guitar hero-esque (sp?) games.

Also, if you have money that your willing to spend for apps, I'd recommend buying Doom: Resurrection. It's basically a knock-off of Doom 3, but "on rails" style.

For AIM, you could use the app "AIM" lol. For msn (rarely used though) I use Fring

Get the id treo free*: Wolfenstein 3d, Doom and Quake. (Doom's controls suck balls, Wolfenstein's are the best IMO, and Quake's are eh)

* These are the shareware versions, if you have the actual game, you can transfer the files. I did it with Quake.

Sorry man, I prefer those 2d games or puzzle games (like sudoku), not the fps types =/

Anyway, the sudoku by EA sucks, it doesn't let you listen to your own music! =P

You're on a board that specializes in modding first person shooters... How can you not be a "first person shooter"-type?

If you want to listen to your own music, double tap home to bring up the music popup and hit play. It should mute the application sounds and start playing your music. I do it in Quake a lot...

I'm going to wait until id acutally releases all there games for the iPhone/touch. All the fan made ports suck balls. Wolfenstein on the Cydia store is actually compiled from id's source code, which is why it pplays so well. Also, they already announced that after they release Doom, they'll move on to port Quake, Quake 2, and possibly Quake Arena. As well, they plan to release the RPG games of Wolfenstein and Doom for the iPhone as well.

I think he means that he doesn't like fps type games on an iPod. I'm the same way, actually.

Does anyone have a free alarm app that uses your own music? I've been looking on the app store and it's been like looking for a good Halo/CoD4 montage.

There's this one (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=/oS9gnBF/JQ&offerid=146261&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252FW ebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewSoftware% 253Fid%253D303645741%2526amp%253B;mt%253D8) (Alarm Clock! Music Theme Clocks), but it costs $0.99. Other than that, I don't think your going to find a good free alarm clock.

I can never get that one to work. The alarm never goes off for some reason... But I'd rather use an actual alarm clock rather than using my iPod anyways.

Should work, you sure your setting it to go off at the right time? Try changing the alarm sound.

Saggy
July 7th, 2009, 03:35 PM
Ok, I got it to work. For some reason, even though the time is PM right now, I have to set the alarm for the opposite time. So right now it's 3:36 PM for me, on my alarm, I would have to set it for 3:37 AM, and then it would go off in the next minute. Anyway I can fix that? Maybe it's a time zone issue (not set on correct time zone?)

The newly released 0.9.2958 versions of MobileSubstrate and WinterBoard (upgraded to support ARM7/Thumb2) should now work on the iPhone 3GS.
Just posting this in all the iPhone centric threads.
