Another Mech game? (Other than MWLL)

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/48878/Get-Off-My-Lawn-Mr-Mech-Or-Else

Teaser trailers for what appear to be for Mechwarrior 5 or some sort.

Mechs are hard to recognize, and the jumping mech appears to be a jenner of some sort.

Fed Suns logo is easily recognized in the flags in the background of the videos.

Good speculation thread here. From what we can tell, it seems like all the mechs shown are in a Fed Suns city.

I wouldn't class mechassault with mechwarrior seeing as how mechassault fucking sucked buffalo sex.

Teroh

Yeah Mechassault is something most battletech fans would like to forget. I really hope this is Mechwarrior 5 and not some stupid Mechcommander 3 or Massively Online game like EA had a license to with MPBT: 3025.

... the weird part is...

If it is Federated Suns...

That would mean this is a Succession Wars game... so like -- Pre-Clan tech.

Sadly, as much as I love my Clan Diamond Shark, this seems to be true. Sofar we've confirmed a Jenner, a Warhammer, and an Atlas. Unseen mechs can be cool, I guess.

Yeah I just realized -- Federated Suns were also in the Dark Ages storyline... and since Pirahna Games founder also founded Wizkids -- it's quite possible this is 3100-based story. (40+ years after Mechwarrior 3 and 4)

:(

Well we might find out in an hour and 7 minutes. I'd hope not Dark Age, but that is a possibility.

Now this looks like it will be cool. I never really played Mechwarrior, but I did play Mechassault and knew it was related. Either way, this is gonna be badass. (Sorry if that didn't make sense, I'm half asleep at the moment)

Please please please play a MechWARRIOR game. If you liked Mechassault (dear god) then mechwarrior is easily 100 times better.

Yeah, but so do most Unreal Engine games. I highly doubt it means they'll be dumbing it down too much, even with respect to key bindings. In any event, trailer looks awesome and I'm very excited. Hopefully the developers can make a comeback after aiding in the development of Transformers 2: The Game :downs:

A lot of unreal engine games are multiplatform, and they are all watered down compared previous PC iterations (example: R6:V). Can't see how this game end up any different than those games.

3015 -- That puts it the last decade of the third succession war. Interesting.

Thank goodness for that, I'd never want to use Live. Hopefully this game won't use it either.

If you guys are going to play MW4 and want to join the NBT league (or even just playing online) you really should message me. Getting everything installed can be a hassle with all the mods... at least until Mektek releases the download with their own mod (presumably) by its site.

IGN interview.

I have high hopes, though I will certainly miss my beloved clan tech if it only takes place pre-invasion.

E :
Jordan Weisman: Our goal for multiplayer, and again, with the caveat of what the eventual budget is, but our goal is a Conquest-style mode. It's not an MMO by any means, but it is multiplayer with continuity and an arrow through time so we can release new updates into the multiplayer game as the timeline of the universe advances and that there are longer term goals for both players and for factions within the multiplayer setting. Again, it's not an MMO, but it is a kind of larger context to multiplayer. We started to touch on that direction with the second MechCommander game, and I think that didn't get as fully realized as we would have liked, but that's directionally the depth and continuity that what we'd like to be able offer in multiplayer.

please yes

Err, I've never played any of these games for an extended period of time, but I have to say that the battle shown in that trailer was pretty slow and boring looking.

Plus just the idea of mechs kind of annoys me. I mean, walking military machines? Sure, good idea. But it only makes the slightest sense as something fast and low like a giant gun-toting cockroach or something, not a slow, tall, incredibly complex and exposed humanoid machine. In my opinion.

The graphics look quite slick though, I must say.

Mechwarrior was never fast-paced compared to other shooters. It's adapted from a tabletop pen-and-paper game after all. I enjoy actually having to think out my attacks before pulling the trigger. One of my main problems with Mechassault was that it gave up a ton of all the micromanagement that went into playing a mech game in favor of arcade-style weapons and health systems.

And I prefer suspending my disbelief about the practicality of mechs. Yes, in reality they would be exposed, slow, expensive, unstable, and a whole bunch of other adjectives (forget about jump jets or all the other stuff in battletech that they have). This is fantasy though. They don't pretend to be plausible aside from some lore that exists just so they don't have to say "they run on magic", they're just there to look nice.
